Today, CBHA’s Senior Advisor, Carli Stelzer, provided public comment at the Senate Budget Subcommittee 3 hearing, advocating for critical investments in housing, adult services, and workforce capacity. Carli highlighted the importance of adult services and CBHA’s support in maintaining funding for the Supplemental Security Income/State Supplemental Payment program rather than the reduction proposed in the Governor’s Budget. Carli called out how SSI and SSP critically aid programs for older adults and individuals with disabilities who are often low-income and at heightened risk of housing instability or homelessness. CBHA specifically flagged that cutting the SSI/SSP benefit in uncertain economic conditions puts these vulnerable populations at risk of homelessness and associated health outcomes including increased mental health and substance use challenges. Thank you to the Committee Chair & members for the opportunity to speak on these urgent issues. CBHA looks forward to working with the Legislature & Governor to ensure the final Budget protects California’s most vulnerable. ??
