While early-stage deals are picking up, later-stage funding remains cautious. The bar for growth-stage capital is higher than ever, and startups that can’t prove efficient scaling are feeling the pinch. - AI is eating the world… again. The pace of innovation (and capital deployment) in AI remains relentless. But beneath the buzz, differentiation is everything. We’re seeing a divide between companies actually building defensible AI-driven products vs. those just slapping “AI” onto a slide deck. - Founders, focus on fundamentals. The best way to raise in this market? Have a clear, compelling value proposition and a business model that doesn’t require endless VC lifelines. Investors are back to basics—so should you.     Building a multi-million to billion-dollar business takes time. It’s not like the early 2000s anymore when companies flip overnight. LPs need to practice patience - think 8 to 10 years for big outcomes while you can still see nice exits 6-7 years in. Track your portfolio, read the quarterly reports to best understand the evolution of your investments but remember top tier returns will take time to develop and get right.

    ?? 2024: WATS Year in Review ???What we’ve been focused on Unlike energy or water, waste is an unmetered utility, so data collection is messy and time-consuming. WATS is eliminating manual data wrangling so companies can focus on what really matters: reducing waste and cutting costs. We’re making data acquisition seamless, automating data requests, and holding stakeholders accountable throughout the year (not just at the end of the year for reporting season)—because better data leads to better decisions and measurable impact. ?????? Team Growth We welcomed stellar talent across engineering, customer success, and design. We hosted two offsites in NYC and Chattanooga to keep our vision sharp, (with some hands-on waste audits and late-night dumpster dives for good measure!) ?? Data Innovation 2024 was a breakthrough year for waste data. Highlights included: - ???♀??Data Confidence: We restructured user workflows to integrate WATS, guiding users to easily identify data gaps, and improve data accuracy and completeness before data is used for reporting. This transparency builds trust and improves decision-making. - ???Expanded Surveys: Using WATS, clients can now gather real-time data on mobile devices to estimate daily, weekly, and monthly waste generation, contamination, and more—turning observations into actionable insights. - ???Enhanced Traceability: WATS users can easily trace metrics back to their exact data sources, simplifying reporting and risk mitigation. - ????Residuals Calculations: WATS can automatically factor contamination levels into waste streams, ensuring that reporting is accurate. - ???Insights & Recommendations: WATS has released the framework for automated recommendations from data analysis. The resulting recommendations are focused on reducing costs, optimizing collection schedules, and increasing diversion rates at the site level. ?? Milestones Achieved: We completed our SOC 2 Type 2 audit, ensuring industry-leading security standards for our data-driven platform.
