C2SMARTER is a solution-oriented research center taking on some of today's most pressing urban mobility challenges
关于我们
C2SMARTER, a USDOT Tier 1 University Transportation Center, uses cities as living laboratories to study challenging transportation problems and find solutions from the unprecedented recent advances in communication and smart technologies. Our core mission includes addressing: Disruptive Technologies: We are developing innovative solutions that focus on emerging disruptive technologies and their impacts on transportation systems with the aim of accelerating technology transfer from the research phase to the real world. These include connected travelers (vehicles and people), autonomous vehicles, shared mobility (such as a bike- or car-sharing programs), and the Internet of Things. Unconventional Big Data: C2SMART is working to make it possible to safely share data from field tests and non-traditional sensing technologies so that decision-makers can address a wide range of urban mobility problems with the best information available to them. Engagement: The Center aims to overcome institutional barriers to innovation and hear and meet the needs of city and state stakeholders, including government agencies, policy makers, the private sector, non-profit organizations, and entrepreneurs. Training and Development: As an academic institution, we are focused on training the workforce of tomorrow to deal with new mobility problems in ways that are not covered in existing transportation curricula. Led by the New York University Tandon School of Engineering, C2SMART’s consortium of member universities brings together an unmatched combination of strengths and resources in urban informatics, connected technologies, behavioral informatics, and city partners. Our geographically diverse consortium includes: NYU, Rutgers University, University of Washington, University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), and the City College at the University of New York (CCNY)

I’m excited to share that I recently had the opportunity to present my work on urban density and public health at #AAG2025, in a session wonderfully moderated by Zhaoxi Zhang, Ph.D. The experience was truly enriching—not only did I get to share my findings, but I also learned a great deal from fellow researchers and the dynamic discussions that followed. For those interested in exploring this research further, please check out our publication: https://lnkd.in/eZ-yEu2E

Congratulations, Prof. Hani Nassif!
I am honored to be awarded the prestigious Arthur J. Boase Award for 2025 presented by the ACI Foundation’s Concrete Research Council. A great tribute to my students and colleagues over the years. Thank you ACI Foundation for this recognition.

CDS-affiliated Assistant Professor Eugene Vinitsky from NYU Tandon shared insights on multi-agent reinforcement learning at a recent CILVR Seminar. His talk "PILAF: A stable foundation for empirically effective multi-agent reinforcement learning" challenged common assumptions about reinforcement learning algorithms in multi-player settings. Prof. Vinitsky demonstrated how single-agent reinforcement learning algorithms with appropriate regularization can outperform specialized multi-player algorithms. His research has practical applications in autonomous systems, including a simulated driver with below human-level crash rates.
