Working on Beacon Hill The first European settler on Beacon Hill was?William Blaxton. In 1625, he built a house and orchard on the south slope. Fast forward to the 19th Century, when construction, including freestanding?mansions, symmetrical pairs of houses, and?row houses, was in full swing. Today, Federal-style?homes, narrow?gaslit streets, and brick sidewalks run through the charming neighborhood steeped in history, with its historical character fiercely protected. This condominium project, facing the Boston Common overlooking the frog pond and adjacent to the Massachusetts State House, was completely renovated to maximize space and character while preserving its historical charm.? The Art Of Zen Design The zen design?epitomizes a minimalist philosophy through the use of simple, clear lines and avoiding complicated and excessive details. Zen embraces natural elements, materials, and patterns to create balance and harmony in a space that is meant to bestow a feeling of warmth and relaxation. Significant research was done before the Zen-inspired Japanese House was constructed, including visiting the Shofuso House in Philadelphia to study and learn more about traditional Japanese architecture and building materials and techniques. An essential part of this project was gaining an understanding of the significance nature plays in influencing Japanese culture, with a strong emphasis on the relationship between structures and nature.
