Watts Healthcare is a bright spot in a community that has not healed. In Black History Month, it is fitting that I learned how Watts Healthcare came to be, out of the need that stirred from the Watts Riots. We attended NACHC Policy and Issues Forum in Washington, DC two weeks ago and immediately went to Los Angeles two days later. Much of our time was devoted to this institution who, up until last year, was the only real healthcare option in Compton. It's an honor to work there, providing Chiropractic to a community of strong, determined, and enduring people. Once a predominantly black neighborhood, Watts/Compton now have a large Hispanic population, as well. We had lunch as a team with our Chiropractic Director Dr. Dave Benevento, DC, our Los Angeles Territory Manager Dr. Ashley Franklin, D.C., the Chiropractor working in Watts Healthcare Dr. Brittnnie Allison Ramirez, DC, and our CEO Lori-Anne Vogel. It was a reminder, as well, as I looked out at the ocean before taking flight back to North Carolina, and seeing the American flag waving at the shoreline, that this country belongs to all of us and was built on the backs of those we celebrate during Black History Month.
