C-Lock Inc. Research Spotlight: GreenFeed is Critical for Measuring Emissions in Grazing Cattle. The recent study from Ireland by Starsmore et al. (2024) investigated factors affecting enteric methane (CH?) emissions in grazing dairy cows using the GreenFeed monitoring system. Results indicated that enteric methane production is influenced by energy-corrected milk yield, metabolic liveweight, milk urea concentration, and body condition score, with these factors explaining 47% of the variation in emissions. The findings suggest that selecting for lower-emitting cows may impact milk production and profitability, highlighting the need for balanced breeding strategies. Congratulations to Pāmu Farms of New Zealand on the successful launch of your methane research facility at St Kilda Farm. Your commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture and reducing emissions aligns with our mission at C-Lock Inc. We look forward to the valuable insights this facility will bring to the industry. C-Lock Inc.
???????????????? ?????? ????????????: ???? ?????????? ???????? ???????? ?????? ?????????? ???? Last week, we welcomed farmers, scientists, industry leaders, and policymakers to the St Kilda methane facility, showcasing ground-breaking research in feed efficiency, methane reduction, and sustainable dairy and beef production. The day kicked off with Robyn Hirst, Methane Facility Manager, providing an overview of the cutting-edge research happening on-site. Attendees got an inside look at the methane measurement technology at Pāmu, including SmartScale, SmartFeed, and GreenFeed, which track feed efficiency and emissions at the individual animal level. ?????? ?????????????????? ???????? ?????? ???????? ??????: ?? ???????? ???????????????????? & ?????????????? ?????????????????? – led by Ben Russell, the Probiotic Dose Response trial is demonstrating early-life interventions that can reduce methane emissions by 20% while maintaining traditional growth rates—a game-changer for sustainable beef and dairy production. ?? ???????????????????? ???? ?????????????? ???????????????????? – one of the most anticipated innovations, George Reeves shared insights on the Ruminant Biotech Bolus which could cut methane production by 50% for 140 days per dose. with its commercial launch expected soon in New Zealand and Australia, this solution is tailored to our pasture-based systems. ?? ?????? ?????????????? ???????????????? & ???????????????? – Experts like Dr. Suzanne Rowe and Dr. Natalie Pickering shared updates on genomic breeding tools to develop lower-emission livestock. ????????????? ???????? & ???????????? ?????????????????? ?????????????????? – Paul McGill and industry leaders showcased the potential for dairy beef systems to produce one-third fewer emissions than traditional beef. As David Chin and Paul Charteris pointed out, feed conversion efficiency is a crucial lever in both reducing environmental impact and improving farm profitability. So how do we integrate genetic improvements, probiotic interventions, and methane- reducing boluses to amplify long-term impact? This was a major theme of discussion at St Kilda—highlighting the need for collaboration and innovation in emissions reduction. By working alongside Fonterra, LIC, Kowbucha, Ruminant Biotech, ASB, and AgResearch, Pāmu continues to drive science-backed, scalable solutions to help farmers reduce agricultural emissions while maintaining productivity. C-Lock Inc. Research Spotlight: Synthetic Bromoform Drastically Reduces Methane Emissions The recent study by Kelly et al. (2025) evaluates the effectiveness of a synthetic bromoform-based feed additive (CHBr?) delivered using either Rumin8 powder or Rumin8 oil. The findings revealed that Rumin8 oil reduced methane emissions by approximately 95%, while the powder formulation showed no significant effect. Importantly, neither treatment negatively impacted dry matter intake (DMI), average daily gain (ADG), or feed conversion rate (FCR). This research is the first in vivo study to evaluate synthetic CHBr? for methane reduction in cattle, demonstrating its potential for commercial use. Future research should explore long-term effects, optimal dosing, and microbiome adaptations to ensure its effectiveness and safety over time. Read the full article here https://bit.ly/3R6469F. A recent study explores the innovative use of exhalomics as a noninvasive method to assess rumen fermentation in dairy cows, proposing that exhaled-breath metabolomics could potentially replace traditional rumen sampling methods. Islam et al. (2024) used GreenFeed to collect exhalome samples 8 times over three consecutive days, representing every 3 h of a 24-h period. Results showed strong correlations between exhaled and ruminal volatile fatty acid profiles (r > 0.74). This research is particularly significant for those in the dairy and beef industries looking to enhance animal welfare and streamline management practices. By leveraging GreenFeed, researchers can gather critical data on methane emissions and fermentation processes without the stress associated with traditional rumen sampling.
