Airports globally have committed to achieving net zero carbon by 2050. Now that the goal has been set, airport staff are left with the major challenge of making it happen. One key hurdle is getting the buy-in from airport leadership to invest the capital and staff resources necessary to plan and implement emission reduction activities. Successfully getting leadership on board requires a solid understand of an airport’s carbon baseline, the magnitude of feasible emissions reductions, and the timeline and costs of proposed projects. These technical elements must be articulated in the context of broader strategic and economic objectives that are front of mind for airport executives. This session will assist airport staff in understanding the tools and messaging that will help to secure net zero buy-in from leadership. The presentation will include an overview of the “toolkit” that is available to airport staff to understand their airport’s pathway to net zero. It will also provide actionable guidance for how to translate net zero verbiage such as GHGs, MTCO2e, and “science-based targets” into language and priorities that airport executives live and breathe.

Project Spotlight | Energy Efficiency Improvements | Cortland, NY? Working collaboratively with the District, C&S Companies completed a wide range of energy-efficiency improvements at multiple schools. Interior and exterior fluorescent, incandescent, and metal halide lighting were replaced with LED fixtures and a new advanced lighting control system reduces runtimes through occupancy sensors and daylight harvesting. A district-wide controls system upgrade gives personnel more control over their HVAC equipment and lighting. Innovative control strategies reduce equipment runtime, saving significant energy. A 450-ton chiller and domestic hot water heater were replaced with more efficient units. Two redundant hot water loop pump motors were replaced with efficient motors with variable frequency drives to reduce their speed and energy consumption when demand is low. Rooftop units were replaced with units with more efficient condenser sections. New heat recovery loops at various locations allow heat to be extracted from the exiting air stream and added to the supply air stream, reducing the need to heat air for occupied spaces. District-wide, six electric booster heaters were converted to natural gas. A condensing unit was replaced with a more efficient unit. Seven package terminal air conditioning units were replaced. The bus garage received an efficient gas-fired, low-intensity, infrared heating system. Learn more about our projects https://lnkd.in/eSGnUSmb
