The hard work ethic of Americans has brought about the creation of many successful businesses. However, at the same time, overworking takes a harsh toll on workers. When WalletHub, a personal finance company based out of Miami, Florida, sought additional insight into both the productivity and condition of America's workers, they reached out to a panel of experts to weigh in with their thoughts. Included on this panel is BYU Economic's, Dr. Christian vom Lehn. We're excited to share this spotlight on Christian's insights and engagement. ? To read his answers to the following questions, please see the link here: ? https://lnkd.in/grZF2NH8 1. In the current economic environment, do you believe wages will register a true increase or will people need to work extra or get a second job? 2. What impact do you believe AI will have on the American worker? 3. Do you believe job conditions are on the rise in the U.S.? What measures should authorities undertake in order to better protect workers? 4. What are the main changes in the job market in 2024 and how will they impact employee engagement? #BYUecon #BYUfhss #BYUeconfaculty

Katelyn Cranney made history in 2022 as the first BYU student selected for the prestigious PRIMO fellowship (Program for Research in Markets and Organizations) at Harvard Business School. Following her fellowship, she returned to BYU to complete her degree, graduating with a major in economics and minors in mathematics, statistics, and international development. Now back in Boston, Katelyn collaborates closely with Harvard faculty as a research assistant. Her projects, focused on the economics of science, include modeling scientific productivity and understanding management-related frictions in academic bioscience labs. “My extensive research experience both at BYU and Harvard was invaluable in the graduate school application process,” Katelyn reflects. “In the Fall, I will be attending Stanford, pursuing a PhD in economics. I hope to continue my work studying the economics of innovation, inefficiencies in labor markets, and experimental economics.” We’re excited to see what's ahead for Katelyn in her studies and beyond as she continues to expand her educational experience.?

  • The BYU Economics department is excited to welcome Dr. Joshua Price as a visiting faculty member for the 2024-2025 school year.?A BYU alum, Dr. Price relates that as an undergraduate he was, “on track to go to law school until I took a statistics class. Years of memorizing stats on the back of baseball cards now seemed useful; that or my inner nerd was unleashed.?Either way, I changed tracks and pursed a Ph.D. in economics.” Since the day of his baseball card/economics epiphany, Dr. Price has earned a B.A. in economics from BYU, an M.A. in economics from Cornell, and a Ph.D. in policy analysis and management from Cornell.?As an assistant professor of economics, he’s also taught at both the University of Texas, Arlington and Southern Utah University.?Here at BYU, Dr. Price will be teaching both Econ 378 (Statistics for Economists) and Econ 382 (Intermediate Price Theory II).?Meanwhile, his personal research focuses on the economics of education, behavioral economics, and sports economics. He’s also dedicated to #BuildingBetterStudents and helping students achieve their academic, career, and personal goals. Welcome, Dr. Price!?We’re better by having you here and are excited for the students who will be learning from you!
