关于我们

BYU Concrete Canoe competes annually in the Rocky Mountain Conference against multiple engineering Universities. The project consists of more than 8 months of planning, 500+ man hours, 25+ undergraduate engineers, a technical paper, and an oral presentation. The project managers oversee the entire process, recruit the help necessary, oversee the limited budget, manage the internal and external communications with students and faculty, and add their expertise from the technical side. The team is divided into separate divisions: - The mix design team is to ensure that the concrete is strong enough to hold 4 racers and light enough to float in water. - The physical design team works in AutoCAD to build the fastest shape of the canoe. - The construction team oversees the strategies of building the mold, pouring and curing the concrete, and sanding the boat to perfection. - The aesthetics team works to make concrete as beautiful as possible and organizes the display to present our information clearly and effectively. - The paddling team trains to drag the heavy canoe across the finish line on the day of competition. The competition is based on strict rules that limit the materials involved in the mix and in the design, as well as an actual athletic race. The display, presentation, and aesthetics of the project are also factored into the final score. The program is designed to develop strong program and project managers in technical fields where they can learn how to organize teams, properly delegate assignments according to strengths, follow a critical path and meet deadlines, present technical information orally and in writing, and accomplish a very difficult task without any tangible reward
