Our first AI salon was a big hit! ?? When Holly Peck and I decided to kick off a series of AI focused gatherings in NYC, we wanted to provide a differentiated space for founders to come together and learn from one another. So, in other words, not your usual tech mixer with loud music and drinking but rather an intimate space to have meaningful conversations. Having a group conversation with 20 founders (ie. opinionated people) can be a challenge but I loved the vibe during our dinner discussion. Founders put down their phones and really listened to one another, agreeing and sometimes not so much - but all with a learning mindset. Topics ranged from build vs buy, hiring first employees and challenges with scale. Zeeza Cole at Bain Capital Ventures was an incredible partner and co-host of this event and Lawrence Helfant from Our Studio Collective Inc. was our venue angel ?? A harsh reality check for many women in tech as Mira Murati steps down from OpenAI. Mira's departure as the CTO of OpenAI,?while totally understandable on a personal level,?serves as a stark reminder of the challenges women face in maintaining leadership positions in tech. She was an inspiration to many of us,?helping to demonstrate that women can excel at the forefront of AI innovation.?Her decision to step down,?regardless of her reasons,?highlights the persistent hurdles women encounter in navigating the complexities of this male-dominated industry. Although I didn't know Mira, I was cheering for her from afar - the reality is that we don't have that many technical role models within the industry - especially at high profile companies. And of course, her departure raises concerns about the lack of female representation in the upper echelons of the industry more generally. But on a positive note... the news shouldn't discourage us,?but rather fuel our collective efforts to build a tech ecosystem where women are empowered to lead and thrive. For my part, I'm teaming up with some amazing women founders and investors to host thoughtful AI focused dinner discussions in #NYC.
