It’s a question we’ve been getting a lot lately. In a nutshell: The hurricanes have made the normal ebbs and flows of the freight cycle more pronounced. Right now, we’re seeing higher volumes on the West Coast in response to disruptions, and moving freight cross-country is simply more expensive. What’s more, carriers don’t want to head to the southeast because there’s nothing coming out of the region. An empty trailer is a losing proposition for these folks who’ve been white-knuckling a down market. That’s putting additional upward pressure on rates. Expect to see this trend continue into the new year. #freightrates #supplychaindisruption #truckcapacity #freightvolumes

Black Friday—it will be here in a blink. And if the start of the holiday shopping season is a make-or-break for your business, listen up. The port strike and hurricanes disrupted the normal flow of freight—especially east of the Mississippi. If you need to move freight, don’t wait. In 2023, last-minute loads weren’t a problem—there was plenty of capacity. That’s not the case this year. If you wait until the Monday of Thanksgiving, you could find yourself staring at empty shelf space—especially when it comes to refrigerated loads. Our advice: Get a jump start! #blackfriday #retailers #disruption #freight #logistics

Spending time in Colombia is good for our business—and the soul. Craig just returned from a visit with our team in Barranquilla, where they plotted out our operational priorities for the coming year, explored ways to drive continuous improvements in our process, and, of course, spent time simply connecting and strengthening bonds with these exceptional people. How lucky we are. #colombia #logistics #teamwork #dreamwork

Nearshoring manufacturing to build a more resilient supply chain? You’re not alone. Cross-border trade between Mexico and the U.S. soared by 52% between September of 2023 and 2024. Still, it’s not easy. If you’re bumping up against blockers in your implementation, and you need local market knowledge and Spanish language support, we can lend a hand. Our cracker-jack cross-border team can walk you through the process so you’ve got a strong handle on the nuances of moving cross-border freight OTR—or take it off your plate entirely so you can get back to doing what you do best. Give us a shout anytime. https://lnkd.in/gqr4npRF #crossborder #logistics #nearshoring #manufacturing #supplychain

It’s hard to say how long this extended peak season will run or what’s driving it. The threat of January port strikes? TARIFF impacts? Both? Regardless, if you’re bringing product in from China, your longer lead times may force you into making some decisions about where to direct your cargo…now. Will you continue to send it to our East and Gulf Coast ports—or will you push to the Ports of Los Angeles and Oakland? Unfortunately, the industry is dealing with a lot of uncertainty so this is most definitely a “peer into your crystal ball” kind of moment. Want to chat through the particulars of your cargo? We’re happy to share our perspectives so you can make your decision with the best information possible. Just reach out. https://lnkd.in/dtksxPCw #supplychain #logistics #portstrikes #tariffs

Have you seen the news? A $248M grant is bringing much-needed medium- and heavy-duty truck charging infrastructure to the East Coast’s I-95 corridor. We’ve got a long way to go before the industry can implement EVs at scale, of course, but it’s only a matter of time. Battery tech is advancing at a breakneck pace—the Chinese are already getting 500 miles to the charge on passenger vehicles. What we find particularly interesting? Truck drivers love EVs. They’re discovering they’re whisper-quiet, and they don’t vibrate or cough up exhaust. Once drivers get familiar, they don’t want to go back to combustion engines. This is definitely a development to watch. #sustainability #supplychain #EVs #infrastructure

The freight cycle? Maybe we should call it what it is—a cycle of pain that puts shipper, carrier, and broker businesses at risk as they each take turns bleeding each other of capital when the market flips in their favor. Well, it’s not how we choose to operate, and we’re proud to say it’s not how our most trusted carriers and shippers operate either. The reason? We recognize that sustainable partners are key to our collective resilience—and this care for the other’s future success blunts those extreme freight rate swings. Another market shift is just around the corner. Apply a tourniquet and protect your business for the long haul: Invest in sustainable partners. BWS president, Craig Allan, shared his perspectives with FreightWaves last year, and his advice holds true. We hope you’ll give it a read: https://lnkd.in/gW4ap5PE #shippers #carriers #businessresilience #businesssustainability
