关于我们
Black Voters Matter goal is to increase power in marginalized, predominantly Black communities. Effective voting allows a community to determine its own destiny. We agree with the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. when he said, “Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.” We seek to achieve our goals with the following 5 core beliefs in mind: - The key to effective civic engagement and community power is understanding, respecting, and supporting local infrastructure. - Black Voters Matter not only on election day, but on the 364 days between election days as well. This means we must support individuals and organizations that are striving to obtain social justice throughout the year. - Black Voters Matter *everywhere*, including rural counties and smaller cities/towns that are often ignored by candidates, elected officials, political parties, and the media. - In order for Black voters to matter, we must utilize authentic messaging which speaks to our issues, connects with our hopes, and affirms our humanity. - The leadership, talent, and commitment demonstrated by Black women, in particular, must receive recognition and, more importantly, *investment* in order to flourish and multiply.

Dr. Melinee Calhoun, BVM's Georgia Sr. State Organizing Manager, spent the afternoon in Albany with Dr. Sylinda in Ward 6. With a team out sign waving, another team phone banking, and more canvassing and branding, they’re putting in the work and making sure every voter is reached! ??? Let's keep this momentum going! #BlackVotersMatter #VoterEngagement #CommunityPower

BVM's Alabama team has been on the move with our incredible partners! Huge appreciation to Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Delta Phi Lambda Chapter for leading a Final Push to the Polls phone bank with Stillman College students, NPHC members, and alumni. Volunteers made calls to remind voters to head to the McDonald Hughes Center and cast their ballots in the recent municipal election. On Texting Tuesday, volunteers also sent over 12,000 texts across Tuscaloosa to get out the vote. Local elections shape our communities—from schools to city policies, these decisions impact our daily lives. That’s why we show up, stay engaged, and make every vote count. Let’s keep building power where it starts: right at home! ???

Yesterday, Black Voters Matter and our partners took over the Texas State Capitol for Day at the Capitol, demanding action on education, voter suppression, environmental justice, criminal justice reform, and reproductive justice. Black folks and Black orgs showed up and showed OUT—from a powerful food security panel to a fiery press conference, we made our voices heard. Our partners took real action: ??? Wrote postcards ???????????? Met with lawmakers ?? Centered our communities’ needs The day was filled with Black excellence, joy, and a renewed commitment to building Black political power. This is how we win. This is how we fight. And we’re just getting started. ??? #BlackVotersMatter

Big thanks to our incredible partner, Valerie Jefferson, always putting in the work on the ground in Louisiana! ???? They gathered at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, and then The Crew got to work, spreading the word about the upcoming March election. We’re fired up and ready to keep encouraging early voting from March 15-22, 2025, and Voting Day on March 29th. Let’s make sure everyone has what they need to get out and vote! ??? #EarlyVoting #Election #BlackVoters #Louisiana

Our Alabama team had their boots on the ground—ALWAYS—with Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation of Selma at the WSFA Day of Action in February. Together with other organizations, we came together to build community, inspire hope, and share valuable resources to push for change in Big Selma. This is how we move forward—united and taking action! ??? #Alabama #BlackVoters #Power

Voting is just one tool, but real power comes from using every tool, every day. Organizing, protesting, advocating for policies, and investing in our communities—that’s how we create real, lasting change. We can’t just rely on elections or wait for politicians to do the right thing. Change starts with us. It’s built in our daily actions, in the way we show up for our communities, hold leaders accountable, and push for the future we deserve. When we use every tool at our disposal, we’re not just hoping for change—we’re making it happen. Let’s get to work. ???
