Affordable housing is desperately needed in Omaha. BVH is working with Clarity Development to show what the historic Standard Oil building in downtown Omaha could look like after it has been rehabilitated and renovated into apartments and commercial space. Plans include 40 units on floors 2-6, and a stair/elevator tower addition on the back of the building for safety/accessibility. Preservation of the exterior is a priority as well. Rehabilitating and repurposing historic buildings like the Standard Oil building can breathe new life into downtown areas while preserving the character and history of the city. The mix of affordable apartments and commercial spaces could create a vibrant, multi-use environment that contributes to both the local economy and the community's overall well-being. The AIA 2030 Commitment, now in its 15th year, has issued its 2023 Report by the Numbers. This program enables architects to publicly demonstrate their commitment to achieving carbon neutrality. With over 1,350 firms participating, it remains a key initiative for sustainable design worldwide. BVH Architecture has contributed to this effort since 2017 by voluntarily reporting project data, with several of its energy-modeled projects reaching the 2030 goal of an 80% reduction in energy use intensity (EUI).
