We had a wonderful time at Purdue University yesterday for the CEPDS - Civil Engineering Professional Development Seminar - where we both attended and had staff present on their completed projects! This was a fantastic opportunity to share our expertise and connect with fellow professionals!

We are incredibly proud to announce that Alan Hamersly was named the Outstanding Professional of the Year at this year’s Indiana Parks and Recreation Association Conference! Alan is a true pioneer and mentor, with 35 years of dedicated experience in parks, trails, greenways, site development, and planning projects. Alan has profoundly shaped the Parks and Greenways professional landscape. His remarkable career includes master-planning over 600 miles of trail and bicycle-pedestrian improvements and designed over 160 miles of built facilities, enhancing recreational opportunities all across Indiana communities! His commitment to mentoring the next generation guarantees that his legacy will continue to influence and inspire future leaders in the field! Please join us in congratulating Alan for this well-deserved recognition of his outstanding contributions. His unwavering dedication and innovative spirit have left an indelible mark on our community, making it a better place for all!

Last week, women from several of our offices came to downtown Indy for the WTS Indianapolis Annual Awards Gala! It was a great time for networking and celebrating with other women in the transportation industry!

Happy National Stormwater Day! In celebration, BF&S has adopted a Lafayette Rain Garden through the Rain Guardian Program with City of Lafayette and Lafayette Renew. We are committed to improving stormwater quality by providing support and guidance for clients, as well as getting our hands dirty and maintaining a stormwater feature near our Lafayette Office!

Congratulations to all involved in the Ribbon Cutting ceremony for the Auburn-Waterloo Trail project this week! The Auburn-Waterloo trail is one of the original “rails-to-trails” projects in Indiana. The original trail was constructed in the 1970s! The rehabilitated Auburn-Waterloo trail is a 3-mile segment that is part of the Poka-Bach regional trail project that includes 81-miles of existing and planned trails from Angola to Bluffton. For this project, 10,000 square yards of dilapidated concrete trail was removed and replaced with over 250 tones of new asphalt to rehabilitate and widen the trail. The project was possible through an IDNR grant through the Next Level Trails program! 

Thank you to Ball State’s Sigma Lambda Alpha: Tau Chapter, an honors association for landscape architects, for having us out for a portfolio review! Two of our Landscape Architects, Jessica and Ryan, were excited to meet with CAP students, offering insights and feedback. It was really great to connect with these talented students!

We are pleased to announce the promotion of Kevin Hintz, PE, to Vice President! In this role, he will work alongside other members of BF&S’s Business Council to identify and advance opportunities for strategic growth, enhance employee training and benefits, and address company-wide initiatives. Kevin will continue to lead the Indianapolis Utility Coordination team in day-to-day operations, as well as continue to serve on the Operations Management Council, where he has proven instrumental in driving process improvements and mentoring emerging talent. “Kevin has done an incredible job as Department Head and continues to set a great example on what it means to be a leader at BF&S,” said President, Dave Lahey, PE. “Kevin’s commitment to mentoring young engineers and his dedication to the greater good reflect the core values we stand by.
