When Richard Bryant and Bobby Edgerton converse, folks often wonder why they call each other “group.” It seems that when they started Capital Investment Group in Raleigh in 1984, the group included two people. The inside joke has become a trademark that reflects a sense of humor and confidence that has undergirded the duo’s efforts for 40 years.

Weatherby Healthcare, a medical staffing company, will invest $7.6 million and plans to add 155 jobs by 2029 with an expansion in Raleigh. Flooding from Hurricane Helene forced Baxter International to temporarily shut down production of its McDowell County facility where 2,500 workers produce primarily intravenous and peritoneal dialysis solutions. The plant, near Marion, is the largest manufacturer of these solutions in the United States, and the largest factory operated by the Deerfield, Illinois-based health products company.
