Calling all businesses to engage with our coalition - and enhance their action on #Nature! ???? As a global coalition of 100+ partner organizations, we drive credible business action and policy ambition to achieve a #NaturePositive economy for all by 2030. Businesses not only impact, but also rely on nature for resources and #Ecosystem services. We’ve created an information page on how businesses can work with relevant partner organizations across our coalition and/or various sectors to enhance their actions on nature, namely through: ?? Reading our Business Action Narrative, produced in collaboration with our partners, which will help them engage effectively with businesses on nature-related issues and topics. ?? Getting started with the High-level Business Actions on Nature (ACT-D): Assess, Commit, Transform and Disclose. ?? Finding out more about the priority actions to take in their sectors. ?? Developing and publishing a credible strategy on nature and joining the ‘It’s #NowForNature’ campaign. ?? Advocating for nature, where businesses play a key role in supporting governments and advocating for ambitious policies, legislation and regulations. ?? Read more: https://ow.ly/9rlw50U2mwy

How are businesses starting to confront the effects they have on #Nature? ?? In 2022, the adoption of the #GlobalBiodiversityFramework called on businesses to contribute to the effort to halt and reverse #BiodiversityLoss by 2030. Since then, the global business community has begun to respond to that challenge. During #COP16Colombia at #Bloom24, Trellis Group launched their inaugural report on the State of Biodiversity and Business, exploring the latest research and how it aligns with the efforts of nature trailblazers. Moderated by Theresa Lieb, Vice President, Nature & Europe at Trellis Group, and with speakers including our CEO Eva Zabey, Geneva Claesson, Partner at Deloitte, and Thomas Lingard, Global Head of Sustainability, Environment, at Unilever, the event highlighted: ?? How far companies have advanced in crafting and executing impactful nature strategies since the Global Biodiversity Framework was adopted two years ago. ?? The insights business leaders gained in advocating for nature. “I am overwhelmed by how much consistency, confidence and clarity there is in the business world, and we are showing the way. Nature is now clearly established on the business agenda. Businesses need to have a clear roadmap as part of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans to help us achieve the Global Biodiversity Framework.” - Eva Zabey, CEO, Business for Nature ?? What were our key takeaways from COP16 Colombia? ?? Coming to an end last week, #COP16Colombia, which marked two years since the adoption of the historic #GlobalBiodiversityFramework (GBF), underscored the urgent need for accelerated action and implementation by all parts of society. A huge thanks go the government of Colombia for their leadership and humility and for pushing the theme "Peace with Nature". In our latest newletter, we highlight that #COP16Colombia must be a wake-up call!

How is political leadership crucial in halting and reversing #NatureLoss now more than ever? ?? Following on from #COP16Colombia, the success of the #GlobalBiodiversityFramework lies in the national and regional implementation of its goals and targets. In particular, next week’s parliamentary vote on the EU Deforestation Regulation (#EUDR) will be a pivotal moment to demonstrate the #EU’s commitment to the agenda. Whilst there has been support from companies including Michelin, Tony's Chocolonely, Mars, Danone, the Cocoa Coalition that includes Nestlé, Unilever and Ferrero, it is concerning to now witness the option of delaying its implementation. That’s why, along with our CEO Eva Zabey and many others, we’re calling on Members of the European Parliament not to sign off on these proposals. The EUDR is an important tool to ensure that nature protection, climate change mitigation and human rights protection become the new business as usual for companies, and delaying the regulation would mean that: ?? An uneven playing field would be created; the businesses that acted responsibly would be disadvantaged, while those that delayed action would benefit.? ?? It would send out the wrong message about the EU’s commitment, create confusion and affect the credibility of adopted EU legislations, at a time when businesses need policy certainty and clarity. Ahead of #COP16, 230 leading businesses also called on the EU and governments around the world to demonstrate immediate leadership to strengthen – not weaken – the policies, incentives and legislation that will drive the necessary business action to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030. ?? Now more than ever, political leadership is crucial in halting and reversing nature loss. As we return from the UN Biodiversity #COP16 in Cali, we know the ultimate success of the Global Biodiversity Framework lies in the national and regional implementation of its goals and targets. ? Next week’s parliamentary vote on the EU Deforestation Regulation (#EUDR) will be a pivotal moment to demonstrate the #EU’s commitment to the agenda.?There is significant support from companies for this regulation (including Michelin, Tony's Chocolonely, Mars, Danone, the Cocoa coalition that includes Nestlé, Unilever, Ferrero and many more - see comment below). ? Yet after years of preparation, it is concerning to now witness the option of delaying its implementation, and even potentially reopening the content of the regulation. ? Today, I’m joining many others to urge Members of the European Parliament not to sign off on these proposals. ? Global #deforestation has been estimated at 10 million hectares each year. Land-use change is the main driver of biodiversity loss worldwide, with 75% of the world’s land surface already significantly altered.?The EUDR is an important tool to ensure that nature protection, climate change mitigation and human rights protection become the new business as usual for companies. Binding due diligence legislation is urgently needed to eliminate legal and illegal deforestation and conversion of natural ecosystems across key forest-risk commodities as foreseen in the #EUDR.?Find out more about binding due diligence legislation here: https://lnkd.in/ewBUdN3g ? Many companies have been preparing for the EUDR and have invested in compliance audits, supplier engagement and advanced traceability technologies to build deforestation-free supply chains. Delaying the regulation would create an uneven playing field: the businesses that acted responsibly would be disadvantaged, while those that delayed action would benefit. ? It would also send the wrong message about the EU’s commitment, create confusion and affect the credibility of adopted EU legislations, at a time when businesses need policy certainty and clarity. ?An enabling environment coupled with regulatory certainty will foster innovation, transform business models, mobilize investment and ensure companies are held accountable for their actions and performance. ? Ahead of #COP16, 230 leading businesses called on the EU and governments around the world to demonstrate immediate leadership to strengthen – not weaken – the policies, incentives and legislation that will drive the necessary business action to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030. Find out more about the 230 leading businesses calling on the EU and governments around the world here: https://bit.ly/Bizstament ? As #COP16Colombia continues, businesses must lead the way to securing a #NaturePositive future. ???? #Nature underpins our global economy, with over half of the world’s total gross domestic product – $44 trillion – moderately or highly dependent on nature and its services. In World Economic Forum’s latest film, our CEO Eva Zabey, along with Karen Sack (Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance), Fleming Voetmann (VELUX), Anne-Sophie Castelnau (ING), Jesper Brodin (IKEA), Rich Lesser (Boston Consulting Group (BCG), highlight that whilst #Biodiversity is in crisis - there is a path forward. The voice of business at COP16 is to signal to governments that the private sector is and must be part of the solution. We’re all part of a shared accountability system, where: ?? Some leading companies are taking action to assess, commit, transform and disclose on nature, including at the sector level and by developing their own individual business nature strategy - but this is not the norm. ?? Governments must move beyond voluntary action and adopt and implement the necessary measures to scale and speed up business action in line with Target 15 of the #GlobalBiodiversityFramework on mandatory assessment and disclosure. “Nature is the most incredible entrepreneur. And if we invest in nature, it will invest in us.” - Karen Sack Find out how businesses and governments are taking action #ForNature: https://lnkd.in/eP5BPnTb Watch the film below to learn more. ??

At #COP16Colombia, leaders from around the world are calling for 'a year of united action on climate, #Nature and food' ???? We're among a group of leaders - representing business, finance, science, civil society, Indigenous Peoples, and youth - that have signed a letter to President Petro of Colombia and President Lula of Brazil, calling for the COP16 and COP30 Presidents to mobilize actors globally in a year of united action from Cali to Belém. With leadership from Colombia and Brazil, signatories including Christiana Figueres, Wanjira Mathai, Xiye Bastida and President Santos, point to the next 12 months as an historic opportunity for the world to: ?? Strengthen national climate and #Biodiversity plans ?? Scale up investment for nature and food systems transformation ??? Support the inclusive participation of Indigenous Peoples and local communities As governments approach the February 2025 deadline to submit updated NDCs, signatories write that with Colombia and Brazil’s leadership, "we can make ‘peace with nature’ the principle that gives shape to these national climate action plans.” ??
