关于我们
The development of a legally binding UN treaty is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to tackle the plastic pollution crisis in a globally coordinated way. We must act urgently on a global, coordinated scale to accelerate the transition towards a circular economy for plastics, or the plastic pollution crisis will only get worse. The Business Coalition for a Global Plastics Treaty brings together +260 businesses committed to supporting the development of an ambitious, effective and legally binding UN treaty to end plastic pollution. The coalition is convened by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and WWF, in collaboration with aligned businesses and supported by strategic NGO partners. The coalition will develop ambitious policy recommendations, engage with treaty negotiators, and build confidence in the business community on the benefits and necessity of an effective treaty that sets common goals, rules, and obligations to be implemented in national jurisdictions.

Let's all get on the same page: #BusinessNeedsGlobalRules. With limited time left for negotiations, reaching an agreement on everything at #INC5 may be challenging. But we believe it's possible, here's how: https://lnkd.in/d534gqMf We have developed this?Roadmap towards an effective Global Plastics Treaty?that is fit for purpose.?Our?'Treaty On A Page'?proposal highlights critical elements of our?Vision?Statement?on which we ask governments to align on as an ambitious starting point to address plastic pollution. #PlasticsTreaty #Biz4PlasticsTreaty

The fast approaching #INC5 in Busan is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to address plastic pollution at a global level via a #plasticstreaty that is fit for purpose. The transitions within business to meet the global rules we are calling for are already well underway, and there are clear and practical steps that can be implemented by business. Watch our latest video series #BusinessNeedsGlobalRules Today to explore three examples, from PepsiCo, Unilever and Woolworths, member companies of our Coalition: https://lnkd.in/dYXaN6_e With thanks to Feroz Koor, Gloria Gabellini, and Holly Nelson for taking part in this series!

This week PepsiCo, SC Johnson, and World Wildlife Fund on behalf of Business For A Plastics Treaty spoke with policymakers on Capitol Hill about the need for a strong and binding treaty that sets the right enabling conditions to help successfully scale a circular economy for plastic and end plastic pollution. #INC5 #PlasticsTreaty

We welcome and support the efforts of the INC Chair to facilitate further discussions amongst governments following the publication of the 3rd iteration of his ‘Non Paper’. We also agree on the need to focus the ongoing efforts of INC members to: > align on the core elements that must be agreed upon at INC-5, > identify priorities to be developed in the interim period, > and ensure that the treaty is effective, implementable, and fit for the purpose of addressing plastic pollution at a global scale. However, at INC-5 government delegations need to significantly strengthen the draft treaty text proposed in the ‘Non Paper 3.0’. In its current form, it does not create the enabling conditions for UN Member States to implement an ambitious, effective and binding policy framework based on?global rules?that we have been calling for. All days in TOMRA are special, but Wednesday was particularly so. I was honored to be invited to Buckingham Palace by King Charles for the International Sustainability Reception, ahead of the INC-5 final rounds of discussions for a Global Plastics Treaty. We had great conversations about deposit return systems as a key solution to reducing plastic waste, and the various efforts that are underway around the globe. It was inspiring to connect with a diverse group of stakeholders, all united by a common goal: increasing sustainability. Meeting places like these are more important than ever, and it’s encouraging to see businesses, NGOs, investors, and authorities coming together to tackle these critical issues. The Global Plastics Treaty aims to address plastic pollution from its source to its impact on ecosystems and communities worldwide –?whether in the form of packaging, textiles or other applications. ? As TOMRA prepares for INC-5, we remain committed to supporting the goals of the negotiations, building on the strong foundation we have established during previous INCs to inform and advocate for meaningful action on plastic pollution.????? I am very much looking forward to engage in Busan which will start soon and I do hope there will be broad support for > setting up a clear mandate in the agreement for countries to create regulatory frameworks and mechanisms at the national level to ensure dedicated, ongoing and sufficient funding for the collection, reuse and recycling of plastic products, recognising well-designed, effective and globally harmonised Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) systems for plastic packaging as a key instrument to mobilise funding and contribute to ending plastic pollution. >?the development of global criteria and global listings, underpinned by science-based objectives and measures, for problematic and avoidable plastic products > globally harmonised product design requirements to provide businesses with guidance, clarity and certainty of future direction, including sector-specific approaches and guidelines
With less than three weeks to go until the last planned round of negotiations for a global plastics treaty (INC5) in Busan, leading businesses and financial institutions, including members of our Business Coalition for a Global Plastics Treaty, from across the plastics value chain have signed a statement calling for ambitious measures in the treaty, including: >?the development of global criteria and global listings, underpinned by science-based objectives and measures, for problematic and avoidable plastic products > globally harmonised product design requirements to provide businesses with guidance, clarity and certainty of future direction, including sector-specific approaches and guidelines. > measures to address chemicals of concern to ensure safety and circularity of plastic products. This statement comes after the Plastic Pollution Treaty Roundtable, co-hosted by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, which took place yesterday at the The RSA (The royal society for arts, manufactures and commerce), London, followed by a reception at Buckingham Palace. A UN treaty based on legally-binding global rules that address the full plastics life cycle offers a once-in-a-generation opportunity to tackle the root causes of plastic pollution?and it is encouraging to see this support from the private sector in the crucial phase of negotiations. The statement is open for signature until Monday the 25th of November.
