Nestor, PhD (Director of the Government-University-Industry-Philanthropy Research Roundtable/GUIPPR)?call on the science community to fully embrace philanthropy as a strategic partner. In their Op-Ed featured in?Inside Philanthropy,?they noted that for over Seventy-five years, U.S. philanthropy has helped fund major scientific discoveries, driving our nation’s economic growth and development. Moreover, as we face many national and global challenges, among them climate change, new energy demands, food and water shortages, and nuclear threats--science can play a critical role in addressing these challenges. According to the authors, "It is time for the scientific community — including government, nonprofit research institutions, and business — to fully embrace philanthropy as a critical strategic partner in advancing a national science agenda that embraces our challenges and employs scientific research to identify solutions for the benefit of humanity."
