关于我们
Büro Koray Duman is a research and idea-driven architectural practice in New York City led by Koray Duman. The studio believes that existing boundaries in architecture and design can be expanded upon and propelled via critical thinking and courage. We are not satisfied with either / or solutions. We strive for both. Architecture should be functional and unexpected, engaged and poetic, experimental and affordable. We believe in the power of architecture to have the ability to challenge our perception of everyday life and, at times, shock and surprise us. Buro provides a full range of architectural services, from design concept to construction administration. The studio’s work features residential, commercial and institutional projects, including flagship stores for Design Within Reach, the headquarters of Council of Fashion Designers of America, a studio renovation and building for the artist Richard Prince and prototype for a new Cultural Center. Buro's projects have been exhibited internationally and featured in publications including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Interior Design Magazine, Architectural Record and Dwell. Büro has been distinguished by the Architizer A+Awards for Emerging Firm of the Year for 2017 and Winner for the Commercial-Factories and Warehouses Category for 2017.

Thrilled to share that our exhibition design for?Paul Pfeiffer: Prologue to the Story of the Birth of Freedom?at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA has been honored with the?Interior Design Best of Year Award 2024?in the Exhibition category! This project was a true collaboration, and we are deeply grateful to Paul Pfeiffer, MOCA, and everyone who brought this vision to life. Inspired by Paul’s exploration of media manipulation and the concept of 'constructed truth,' the design reimagines the 22,000 sq. ft. space as a film production studio. Visitors transition from conventional white cube galleries into a vast warehouse, where wood-framed volumes expose the underlying 'construction' central to Paul’s work, reflecting his interest in the highly fabricated and labor-intensive process of Hollywood filmmaking. Thank you to @interiordesignmag for this recognition, and to our incredible team and collaborators who made it possible. Büro Koray Duman (B—KD) is honored to announce that "Fault Lines" an architectural proposal led by founder Koray Duman alongside Kutan Ayata and Ferda Kolatan, has been selected as a finalist for the Turkish Pavilion at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale. Recognized for its compelling approach to environmental and geological themes, "Fault Lines" transforms the pavilion into a space reflecting on seismic activity and human impact on?earth. Inspired by the devastating earthquakes of February 2023 that struck southeastern Turkey and northern Syria, "Fault Lines" invites visitors to reflect on the shifting and sometimes violent geological forces that shape our world. The proposal includes a large, suspended sculptural element and an AI-generated gallery of landscapes that illustrate the interplay of natural and human interventions. This immersive environment traces illuminated fault lines across the floor, drawing visitors into a spatial narrative that connects architecture with the earth’s evolving surface. B—KD is deeply honored to have been recognized by the selection committee. Designed to challenge audiences to engage thoughtfully with the intersections between tectonic movements, architecture, and the broader environmental crises of our time, the installation aligns closely with the Biennale's overarching theme, curated by Carlo Ratti, which centers on architecture’s role in the climate crisis and its "multiple and widespread intelligences" within natural and artificial systems. #VeniceArchitectureBiennale #BiennaleArchitettura2025 #TurkishPavilion2025 #BiennaleArchitettura2025 #LaBiennaleDiVenezia #ArchitecturalReflection #ImmersiveSpaces #EarthquakeArchitecture #ArchitectureForTurkey #PavilionDesign #SpatialNarrative #BuroKorayDuman #TurkishEarthquake2023 #ArchitectureAndNature #VeniceBiennale2025 #ArchitectsOfChange #TurkishArchitects #MemoryInArchitecture #ClimateAndArchitecture

B-KD's Koray Duman has been selected as a 2024 Global Exchange Fellow. Congratulations to all the inspiring individuals in this inaugural class of fellows leading the way in shaping a better city. From reforming regulations to enable office conversions and negotiating key policies like Good Cause Eviction and Local Law 97’s emissions mandates to organizing for tenant rights and promoting transparency in NYCHA improvements – our cohort will work to address New York City’s most pressing challenges. The fellowship will feature a speaker series with global experts and a study trip to Berlin in September to exchange ideas and explore innovative solutions. Stay tuned as we collaborate to shape the future of New York City and beyond.

Progress in our Germantown Project
The last two years of hard work are taking shape. Framing and roofing have been completed in our project in Germantown, NY, and glass installation is in progress. So nice to see how the design concept is carried through the concept model to construction. Kudos to @burokorayduman team, Montanaconstrucao, Silman Engineering, E4P Engineers, Daniel Elmore, Caitlin Duppo

Congratulations to Participant Inc. and Lia Gangitano on recently hitting a 20 year milestone. Your unwavering dedication to the alternative arts has touched many, and we are eager to see you flourish in your new space. ?????? Founded in 2001, Participant Inc. is an educational corporation and not-for-profit alternative exhibition space. After over fifteen years in LES, Participant relocated to 116 Elizabeth Street to launch a multi-year project to strengthen their program and envision a sustainable future. The new space designed by B-KD aims to re-envision Participant’s workspace and provide public accessibility to their archives, artist estates, and exhibition venue. The design goal during this phase was to unite their exhibitions and estate programs under one roof, offering a picture of the promise their future holds: a space that encourages cultural transformation while providing research and care for prior experimental artistic practices, a repository of intergenerational memory. Upon entrance, a generous ramp provides accessibility to the main space. Aligning with the ramp, the space is divided into two sections: an area for archives, artist estates, and a workplace on one side and an exhibition space on the other. A modular steel frame with expanded metal infill provides storage for Archive and Artist Estates’ materials while keeping visual and physical access from the exhibition space, thus the design aims to provide a fluid relationship between exhibitions, archives, storage, and workplace.
