?? The Federal Bureau of Prisons celebrates Women's History Month by highlighting some famous "firsts." In 1978, Linda Allen became the first female correctional officer (CO) at USP McNeil Island, WA (became a state prison in 1981). She was one of only a few women to work as a CO in a high security penitentiary (USP). It is likely that Allen faced much skepticism and scrutiny, and probably even harassment, serving in that position; however, like her predecessors, her perseverance, despite the hardships she faced, has inspired women to pursue careers in corrections and law enforcement. #WomensHistoryMonth #JusticeReform #Trailblazer

?? The Federal Bureau of Prisons celebrates Women's History Month by highlighting some famous "firsts." In 1976, Eloyne Wilkins shattered barriers by being the first female correctional officer in an all-male federal correctional institution. Despite contending with harassment on the job, Wilkins was “pleased to be a part of this new program,” and felt ‘it was important to have females inside correctional facilities, as they represent half of the “real world” on the streets.’ Her courage and determination have inspired other women to join the field of corrections. #WomensHistoryMonth #JusticeReform #Trailblazer
