    Congratulations to Bryan Mercier on his appointment as the Director of the Bureau of Indian Affairs! Bryan brings over 20 years of dedicated public service experience, starting as a Morris K. Udall Foundation Intern and Mark O. Hatfield Fellow with Senator Gordon Smith of Oregon. His impressive career includes roles with the USDA Forest Service, the Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institution Fund, and as the executive manager of Fish and Wildlife for the Bonneville Power Administration’s Environment, Fish, and Wildlife Program—the largest environmental mitigation program in the U.S. Bryan holds degrees from the University of Oregon, Universit?t Freiburg, and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. As an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon, his leadership is a source of pride and inspiration.     Today, we celebrate the remarkable career of Darryl LaCounte, Director of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and proud member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians. Darryl’s journey began in 1988 at the Wind River Agency in Wyoming, and over the past 36 years, he has dedicated his life to serving Indian Country with unwavering commitment. From his early days as an oil and gas specialist to his leadership roles within the BIA Rocky Mountain Region, Darryl’s impact has been profound. As Director since 2019, he has been instrumental in placing over four million acres back into federal trust, safeguarding Tribal lands for future generations. ?
