Hand-rolled croissant buns baked fresh throughout the day. We started from home, we've made it across London. A month into (the first) lockdown Barney was at a loose end, missing working and baking and decided to make some pastries for his neighbours from his mum’s kitchen. Barney printed some flyers and put them through my neighbour’s letter boxes. He was almost instantly overwhelmed with orders and soon he had to ask his younger brother Gabriel to help with the deliveries, soon it wasn’t just him but they had a small army of friends turning up each morning with bikes to deliver their pastries too. Buns From Home now has twelve shops across London spanning from Notting Hill to Canary Wharf.

love finding lost files from when barney first started from home! looking back at this first flyer brings a mix of nostalgia and gratitude. back in 2020, when the world was under lockdown, buns from home began in the heart of barney's mums kitchen. barney poured passion into perfecting the cardamom buns that you can see on that first flyer. they were an instant comfort for friends and neighbours, a small joy in uncertain times, and they’re still a staple on our menu today. we started with a simple offer: your first order free. it wasn’t just about sharing what barney baked; it was about connecting and lifting spirits when we all needed it most. today, we're both humbled and amazed to say that what started in a kitchen in notting hill has grown into 16 shops across london. this journey has been more than just business growth; it’s been about building a community and sharing a little taste of home with everyone who walks through our doors. to those who believed in us from day one, and to every person who’s supported us along the way- thank you. you’re part of the reason buns from home has become what it is today.

we don’t usually repeat our specials but our duabi chocolate bar weekend special was so popular we just had to bring it back last weekend! we knew this bun would be popular but it did even better than we could have ever expected! we ended up going viral on social media and over the weekend our instagram profile activity saw an uplift of 217%, complete and utter madness! however, it also came with it's challenges, we increased supply to try to meet demand and our lovely (and exceptionally hard working) team on the ground worked as hard as they could to satisfy each and every guest but managing expectations with such a popular special wasn't an easy feat. huge kudos to our team for doing their best, but also to our guests who waited in long queues or visited multiple shops, we are only where we are because of you! let's wait and see if the dubai choclate bar weekend special will make a triumphant third return...

I saw this window in London walking through Piccadilly and it reminded me of the "founder's journey"... When I Google’d this business, the story really resonated with me, so I wanted to share it. This company is buns from home. A month into the first lockdown during COVID, the founder Barney, found himself missing work and baking. So he decided to make some pastries for his neighbours from his Mum’s kitchen. He made some flyers and popped them in his neighbours' letterboxes, and eventually got overwhelmed with orders. Then he got his younger brother delivering them and an army of friends turning up with their bikes every morning to deliver the pastries as well… and guess what? Now they've got 16 shops across London. I felt this story and it reminded me of how I was feeling during that COVID period. It was a time when a lot of people started to question, “is this all there is”, and “is there something more”. In my experience, I knew that I wanted to help people have a better experience in their work life…That was a reflection of me not having that in my own. We spend about a third of our lives at work. So that's around 1,820 hours a year and 90,000 hours over our lifetime. So… my mission then became to find a way to get people to thrive at work and then that led me to flow. So I started sitting at my desk at home with a dream just like Barney. Now, three years later here I am…making a difference and doing what I want to do. So, for you, what's a professional endeavour that you might like to start from home? Or what side hustle could you do to bring you more fulfilment and then see where that leads you? You never know…before you know it, you might have 16 shops across London… #sidehustle #passionproject #purpose #worklife
