Honored to moderate an inspiring discussion at the CREW Greenville luncheon on ‘Designing with Purpose: United Community’s International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) Journey’. ?We explored how they incorporated the WELL Building certification into the creation of their headquarters and how it has influenced and enhanced their existing employee programs, focusing on creating a workplace that prioritizes health and wellness of their employees. ? A highlight was learning how United Community opened their facilities to employees and their families to use for hot showers, power, AC, and even temporary childcare after Hurricane Helene. POWER OUTAGES. SIGNAL OUTAGES., LIVE DOWNED LINES. TREES BLOCKING ROADWAYS. These are the biggest issues facing #GreenvlilleSC right now. We ask everyone for patience. This is a situation that will take many days, perhaps weeks to fix. We are waiting on utilities to ground lines so our crews can cut trees. Our focus is making sure roadways are passable. Debris is being pushed to the side. We will return to pick it up. We are trying to get more Duke resources here to assist. We have the manpower for tree clearing and tree cutting. We need utility assistance before we can make that happen. On a positive note, Falls Park is OPEN. Our parks team worked tirelessly to make it safe for visitors seeking outdoor refuge. All other parks remain CLOSED until further notice. Unity Park will be the focus tomorrow. Cleveland, Gower, Timmons, Legacy, Holmes and neighborhood parks are unsafe as a result of storm damage. Please respect barricades. 95% of Greenville County is without power. 75% of our traffic lights are dark. Greenville Police urge you to treat those lights like a four-way stop and show patience to other drivers. Most of downtown has power and many restaurants have reopened. While we encourage people to stay home to avoid traffic accidents, we want to make you aware of the opportunity for a hot meal. We know this is a stressful time. Many have reached out to offer post-storm volunteer assistance; however, at this time, conditions remain unsafe for the public. Our City crews are hard at work to clear debris and restore safe conditions and it is important that we allow the time and space for them to complete this work. We will provide updates if volunteer opportunities arise in the future.
