Kicking off another calendar year with the first big Beer (and BevAlc) "holiday" following NYE. It will be interesting to see who/what wins BEFORE the game as much as it will be to track who emerges as a winner AFTER.

The BevAl landscape continues to evolve when it comes to Space and Momentum, bringing new challenges to Suppliers, both Start-Up and Established.

This month saw the release of the findings from our annual BWC 3-Tier Growth Strategies Survey as the featured topic in our December newsletter. It’s a whole new world out there and it has challenged everyone to seek out new Growth strategies across each of the 3-Tiers in order to survive. While there are many external factors that can inform strategy, the prioritization of a Stable Foundation/Core should always remain a part of the conversation. This is obviously easier said than done given the wide array of situations that a Brewer can find themselves in, but the latest data suggests that it might be better in the long run to excel in a few areas vs. doing "just OK" in several.

While there are still plenty of "traditional" Beverage Alcohol brands driving incrementality in 2024, the contributions from flavor-centric offerings have been hard to ignore. Lots of growth balanced by a fair amount of cycling, but the role that FLAVOR plays in Beer & Spirits continues to be a prominent one.

Although Bud Light has consistently maintained its rank as the #1 Beer brand in the US by Volume in the Off-Premise channels, and has slowed its rate of decline since last April, the challenges continue as it (and more recently several of its Light Beer peers) struggles to find GROWTH in todays market. Great write-up on the struggles that many Distributors continue to face as momentum shifts away from historical category leaders & companies adjust focus/strategies to capitalize on today’s “hot hands”.
