There was so much noise this week about the Federal Reserve's independence and more uncertainty about the Trump administration's tariff plans. I broke it all down during a fun conversation on Bloomberg Surveillance this morning. A couple key points: ?? With uncertainty and fear gripping markets, businesses, and consumers, the last thing Trump should do is throw more gas on that fire by playing politics with the Fed. Just look at the turmoil in Turkey's economy for an example of how politicizing the central bank can go horribly wrong. ?? ?? Put the potential reciprocal tariff actions into their own March "Madness" bracket. 301s in the East, IEEPA in the South, Section 338 in the Midwest, and Section 122 in the West? Whatever region Trump chooses (or all of them!), eliminating the uncertainty that is roiling markets and unnerving trading partners is key. Watch the segment and let me know which region you'd pick!
