Embracing Collaboration: Corporates and Startups Innovating Together in Climate Tech At the SynBioBeta 2024 Conference this past May, our Climate Tech panel discussed a pivotal industry shift. One panelist shared: "Corporates are moving beyond the 'not invented here' mindset. They're now eager to partner with early-stage startups to innovate and build future strategies. With many 2030 targets at risk, there's a real hunger for early-stage innovation among corporates. This opens incredible opportunities for founders to scale their impact through strategic partnerships—not just early acquisitions." This evolving dynamic allows startups to leverage corporate resources while influencing the future of the industry. ?? Is Cultivated Turkey the Future of Thanksgiving? With Thanksgiving only a few days away, many of us are gearing up for the traditional turkey feast. But imagine a future where the turkey on your table was cultivated in a lab rather than raised on a farm. In her latest SynBioBeta Insights article, Jennifer Tsang, explores the burgeoning cultivated meat industry and its potential to redefine our holiday staples. Jennifer traces the journey from Winston Churchill's (yep, you read that right) 1931 vision of lab-grown meat to the groundbreaking debut of the world's first cultivated burger by Dutch scientist Mark Post in 2013, which cost a whopping $330,000 to produce. This milestone ignited a global surge in innovation within the cultivated meat sector. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eNWjtvh6 Some of the key players driving this revolution include: - UPSIDE Foods - Mosa Meat - Wildtype - BlueNalu - Aleph Farms - BioBetter? - Multus - Believer Meats - Pluri Sonalie Figueiras, Founding Editor of Green Queen Media and the Food & Ag Track Chair for #SynBioBeta2025 shares her insights: “We are very much at the very beginning of this technology, and like all new technologies, it's going to take time to figure out scale and lower the cost.” Moreover, an array of recent regulatory approvals are paving the way for the cultivated meat industry : - Eat Just, Inc. received approval in Singapore for its cultivated chicken, becoming the first company to bring lab-grown meat to consumers. In the U.S., the USDA-approved cultivated chicken from?GOOD Meat?(a brand of Eat Just) and?Upside Foods is?now available in select restaurants. - Meatable received approval from the European Food Safety Authority for public tastings of cultivated meat in the EU. - Aleph Farms gained approval in Israel for its cultivated beef. While we might not see lab-grown turkey on our tables this Thanksgiving, the advancements suggest it's only a matter of time before cultivated meat becomes mainstream. This innovation promises a sustainable and ethical alternative that could transform our food systems and traditions. #CultivatedMeat #LabGrownMeat #FoodInnovation #Sustainability #Biotechnology #Thanksgiving #SyntheticBiology
