?? Delve into DSS Lab, EPU-NTUA’s publication ‘Assessing the adoption level of solar PV installations, on district scale of urban environment’. ???? The study, based on research conducted within the framework of BUILDSPACE and other #EuropeanHorizonprojects, aims at assessing and prioritising urban districts for #solarphotovoltaic (PV) installations using a combined Geographic Information System (GIS) and Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) approach. The methodology employs high-resolution #spatialdata to calculate rooftop solar potential and ranks districts using the MABAC method, emphasising equity in #renewableenergy adoption. The results highlight the most suitable neighbourhoods for PV deployment, i.e. higher populated areas, with plethora of buildings and therefore, greater PV potential. ?? The research will support urban planners and policymakers in achieving Riga’s climate neutrality goals under the EU "100 Climate Neutral Cities by 2030" initiative. Indeed, the BUILDSPACE pilot in the city of Riga focuses on the testing of the building energy demand forecast service at city scale to ensure efficient resource allocation, plan for future energy needs, adapt to #climatechange impacts, promote #sustainabledevelopment, and reap economic benefits. ?? ?? Last month, project partner DSS Lab, EPU-NTUA attended the ArcGIS Greece - Cyprus 2024 User Conference, which took place on 23 and 24 October in Athens, Greece. The aim of the event, which is organised every year by Marathon data systems, is to bring together professionals, academics and specialists in the field of #geoinformatics in order to exchange ideas and practices on the use of ArcGIS, as well as present their work and applications. During the conference, Iason C. Dimitriou, from the NTUA team, presented the recent publication ‘Assessing the adoption level of solar PV installations, on district scale of urban environment’ and the photovoltaic potential map, which was developed in the context of the BUILDSPACE Project. ????? Through the utilisation of Geographical Information Systems (GIS), NTUA was able to contribute to BUILDSPACE Service 3 by creating a #SolarMap of the municipality of Riga, Latvia. Indeed, SE3. On October 8th, project leader SingularLogic participated in the User Consultation Platform (UCP) 2024, organised by the EUSPA - EU Agency for the Space Programme. The UCP is a systematic consultation process involving several stakeholders, such as business and industry leaders, entrepreneurs, service providers, innovators and other EU Space user communities, to express their needs and requirements, share best practices and present case studies. ?? ?? On October 15th, project partner European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts presented #BUILDSPACEproject at the Third Destination Earth User eXchange, held in Darmstadt, Germany. ?? The event aims to convene current and prospective users of DestinE and developers of the DestinE systems. Destination Earth (DestinE) is a flagship initiative of the European Commission to develop a highly-accurate digital model of the Earth (a digita ltwin of the Earth) to model, monitor and simulate #naturalphenomena, #hazards and the related human activities. Through a poster presentation, an overview of BUILDSPACE project was provided: its background and objectives, as well as the platform and the five services. Among the conference participants' suggestions was to collaborate with the Covenant of Mayors and Mayors Adapt. ?? The event was relevant for BUILDSPACE, which aims to align with #EGNSS specifications and #Copernicus services and to synchronise with the advances of DestinE, targeting #DigitalTwin technologies and data federation mechanisms. ? ?? New ‘Addressing the environmental and climate footprint of buildings’ report by the European Environment Agency. ?? The report assesses the current state of Europe’s #buildingsstock and reflects on what is needed to make Europe’s buildings more sustainable. Indeed more than 30% of the EU’s environmental footprint comes from #buildings, making it the sector with the highest #environmentaimpact. The study also explores what policy actions are need to achieve that by 2050: - Making building renovation a priority - Making buildings circular - Constructing buildings using products which have a low environmental impact over their entire life cycle - Reducing energy consumption in the use stage - Fostering fairness and inclusion - Climate-resilient and nature-positive buildings ????? The report is interesting for #BUILDSPACEproject, which is designed to reduce the carbon footprint of the building stock and to support the resilience of buildings in urban environments to climate change and natural hazards. ?? ????BUILDSPACE Project in Prague! ???? Last week, BUILDSPACE Consortium gathered in Prague for its third Transnational Project Meeting. ?? During the two-day event, the partners presented the progress in their tasks and activities. Some interesting achievements concerned the co-designing of BUILDSPACE five services. #CorePlatform and #Services demos are under continuous development and soon be available for stakeholders and end-users. Similarly, pilot partners showed their progress, as well as difficulties and challenges encountered in each pilot, in which services will be implemented. We still have half of the project ahead of us and will bring so much more!?? #BUILDSPACEproject is indeed committed to support the #GreenDeal objectives by developing innovative applications to support buildings’ #energyefficiency and cities’ #resilience and #sustainability. ???? ?
