?? TL;DR: I stole a voice over job from a man. ?? Bet THAT got your attention, huh? ??♀? No, I didn’t STEAL anything; I simply excelled. ?? Because that’s what women do. ?? And that’s what we get to witness DAILY through the hard work of Christy Harst at Building Doors VO. ?? If you haven’t heard, Christy created the Building Doors campaign to advocate for equal opportunities in the voice-over industry, particularly within male-dominated brands like sports. ?? ?? If you ALSO haven’t heard, Christy recently won the prestigious Unicorn Award at VO Atlanta for all her efforts. (She’s a big deal, folks.) ?? ?? ?? If you ALSO ALSO haven’t heard, Building Doors is celebrating its one year anniversary breaking down barriers and empowering new voices! Christy hosted some amazing live events, with Q&As, big prize giveaways (I won a session with Tom Antonellis! Yay!), and expert advice from industry pros like Arielle Negrin and Cori Goldstein. ??? Last night, we talked about how male voices are statistically privileged over female voices in certain voice-over genres, and it got me thinking of the moment I mentioned above—when I “stole” a job from a man. ?? I recently booked a job and hopped on a Zoom call (thanks to Brad Hyland's client relationship coaching) to chat more with the client. “This has been an interesting casting experience,” the client told me. “My client said they wanted male voices only, and I made the mistake of sending out the casting call asking for female voices. So, I had to send out another casting call for male voices, BUT I told my client, ‘You should really listen to this gal.’ ” ?? Guess what? The client liked my voice best. ?? What does this story illustrate? ?? Many things, but I think one of the major takeaways is that it takes a COMMUNITY advocating for others to make real change. ?? My client could have said, “Whoops. Sorry. I made a mistake, and I can no longer offer you this job.” But they didn’t. They ADVOCATED for me! ? Regardless of your position in the voice-over industry or any industry, that’s what I want to leave you with today: ?? How can YOU advocate for others? ? Oh, and check out my TOTALLY AWESOME BUILDING DOORS SWEATSHIRT!!!

关于我们
The Building Doors campaign advocates for equal opportunities in the voice-over industry, particularly within male-dominated brands like sports. It highlights female voice actors voicing ads traditionally done by men, urging brands and agencies to embrace gender diversity. By pushing for equal opportunities for both men and women, the campaign aims to foster industry-wide equity. Building Doors is a mission-driven initiative. It’s not a for-profit or non-profit organization, but rather a community built around a shared cause.
