On today's podcast I had the pleasure of talking with Nadia and Rebekah with Oxalis Advisors. They are launching into the world of energy and environmental consulting. We recorded this podcast early into hurricane season and have only seen more dramatic natural disasters affecting vulnerable communities. It's with hope that people like Rebecca and Nadia will be able to help communities long term build resiliency into their buildings. That's a wrap, 3 days of mastering the fundamentals in this week's Masterclass at the measureQuick headquarters. I can honestly say I am exhausted. I can also say it was worth it. Far too often as in industry we focus on the mechanics of what we do rather than why we do it. We have failed as an industry to teach science, and it has left a huge hole in our ability to troubleshoot the real problems that plague system performance, longevity, and efficiency. We are in the business of conditioning air, yet we never learn how to measure it, and how to measure the impact the HVAC equipment has on it as well as the room occupants. We had a diverse group of students, from 30+ years of experience to little HVAC experience at all. What did they all come away with? measureQuick is not magic, it's not a mystery, it is grounded in HVAC fundamentals. We simply learned how to do some things by hand that measureQuick does in the background. Most learned things that they were never taught. measureQuick is a software tool to help optimize refrigerant charge, airflow and overall performance on an HVAC system. We also learned no matter how good you are at system diagnostics that measureQuick is faster and more accurate in pointing you in the right direction to get the problem solved. For me personally it is very gratifying to see that there are those that value education and training. The fact that many were willing to pause in the middle of the busy season to spend three days in a classroom is a testament to their commitment to the HVAC industry and the lifelong learning that it requires. It was also gratifying to see how accepting or trade is to those that want to better themselves personally. It was a reminder that we need not let the past mistakes dictate the outcome of our future. It was a reminder that if you are willing to learn and contribute that there is room for you in the HVAC trade.
