Building Industry Association of Washington

The Building Industry Association of Washington (BIAW) is one of the state’s largest and most influential organizations fighting for the rights of residential home builders, remodelers and associates in Washington state. Chartered in 1950 by the National Association of Home Builders, BIAW represents thousands of member companies statewide in collaboration with our 14 local building associations. BIAW battles 365 days a year on members’ behalf so we can build homes people can afford.

We did it! Given the voting trends both on election night and these past two days, it’s clear that Initiative 2066 has been approved by Washington voters! By passing I-2066, voters have ensured that everyone can keep affordable, reliable natural gas for heating and cooking—especially during power outages. Thanks to our association members, our tens of thousands of grassroots supporters and our union and industry partners, like the Washington Hospitality Association, Associated General Contractors of America, Washington REALTORS?? , the Northwest Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Association, we sent a thunderous message: Washington demands energy choice. "Gas bans will impact everybody, whether you own or rent your home. They drive up energy bills, which is devastating for people with low and fixed incomes. When the state stops natural gas service, homeowners will have to pay all conversion costs to switch from gas to electric appliances–an average of $40,000/home. Nobody should ever be forced to switch to all-electric appliances. Voting “Yes” on I-2066 stops forced conversions and lets people choose whether they want gas or electric appliances at home."
