In the quest to transform public education, what kind of leadership is truly needed? In a new Getting Smart Blog, Kathleen Osta, LCSW, LaShawn Routé Chatmon, and Tom Malarkey from the National Equity Project propose that Horizon 3 (H3) leaders are crucial for creating personalized, equitable, and innovative learning environments. These leaders focus on co-designing educational experiences that prioritize belonging and collective agency. By adopting Liberatory Design mindsets and practices, these leaders work to dismantle systemic inequities and foster a culture of innovation. Their insights reveal the importance of understanding the complex challenges within education and responding with strategies that consider every student's unique needs and potential. Congratulations to the Launchpad Philly students that participated in the OwlHacks hackathon at Temple University and a special shout out to the winners! #launchpadphilly
This weekend, I had the incredible opportunity to attend my first-ever hackathon at Temple University, organized by OwlHacks! ???? Alongside my amazing teammates Antonio Archer Mohamed Souare, and Malek Aldalali, we created The Philly Way, an interactive map of Philadelphia that helps users discover cool places to visit using the Leaflet library. This project was such a rewarding challenge—applying the skills we’ve gained at Launchpad Philly, having fun, and building something that connects tech with local exploration. Although we didn’t win the competition, I loved every second of it. I could feel myself improving with every line of code, and the immersive experience strengthened my confidence as a developer. I left the hackathon feeling like a better, more capable coder—an achievement in itself! Also, a huge shoutout to Kevin Tellez-Torres and Pedro Santos Martinez for winning Best Beginner Code—well deserved! They’re also part of Launchpad Philly, and I couldn’t be prouder of how well they represented. Check out our project, The Philly Way here: https://lnkd.in/etwYRgWP Grateful for the collaboration and the chance to turn our knowledge into action. Super excited for future hackathons! Big thanks to everyone involved! #OwlHacks #Hackathon #ThePhillyWay #LeafletJS #TechInnovation #PhillyTech #LaunchpadPhilly #WebDevelopment #PhillyProud #javascript #css #html5
