In the middle of August, Jonathan Storie came by and did an in class product training over the portfolio of Polyguard's below grade products. Jonathan did a fantastic job showcasing all the unique applications and tips on installation as well as the accessories that accompany said products. Did you know? In organic chemistry, ethers are a class of compounds that contain an ether group—an oxygen atom bonded to two organyl groups (e.g., alkyl or aryl). They have the general formula R?O?R′, where R and R′ represent the organyl groups. Ethers can again be classified into two varieties: if the organyl groups are the same on both sides of the oxygen atom, then it is a simple or symmetrical ether, whereas if they are different, the ethers are called mixed or unsymmetrical ethers. A typical example of the first group is the solvent and anaestheticdiethyl ether, commonly referred to simply as "ether" (CH3?CH2?O?CH2?CH3). Ethers are common in organic chemistry and even more prevalent in biochemistry, as they are common linkages in carbohydrates and lignin. Polyethers are generally polymers containing ether linkages in their main chain. The term polyol generally refers to polyether polyols with one or more functional end-groups such as a hydroxyl group. The term "oxide" or other terms are used for high molar mass polymer when end-groups no longer affect polymer properties. Yesterday (10/01/24) we were invited to attend a lunch and learn conducted by the Henry, a Carlisle Company at WJE's office in Irving, TX. We were very honored to receive the invite and to say that Matthew Joseph Dealy, CDT, Armin Michelsen, CSI, CDT, and JON HAMMAN did a great job would be an understatement. Again, thank you all for the invite.

Back in August, we were lucky enough to have Wm. Steven Holley come in and conduct a training over some key products offer by Adhesives Technology Corp. Steven did a great job with hands on training as well as a class room demonstration. Did you know? Latex is an emulsion (stable dispersion) of polymer microparticles in water. Latices are found in nature, but synthetic latices are common as well. In nature, latex is found as a milky fluid, which is present in 10% of all flowering plants (angiosperms). It is a complex emulsion that coagulates on exposure to air, consisting of proteins, alkaloids, starches, sugars, oils, tannins, resins, and gums. It is usually exuded after tissue injury. In most plants, latex is white, but some have yellow, orange, or scarlet latex. Since the 17th century, latex has been used as a term for the fluid substance in plants, deriving from the Latin word for "liquid". It serves mainly as defense against herbivorous insects. Latex is not to be confused with plant sap; it is a distinct substance, separately produced, and with different functions. The word latex is also used to refer to natural latex rubber, particularly non-vulcanized rubber. Such is the case in products like latex gloves, latex sealants, latex clothing, and balloons.
