Really excited about this upcoming event, aimed at highlighting an understudied and often undervalued area in education - Middle School! In addition to the great line up of keynote speakers, WEPC faculty Joshua Goodman will also be hosting a panel around rigorous math coursework beginning in the middle grades. Event is open to all, attend one or both days!

Excited to see efforts by our partners at the Indiana Department of Education featured in Soledad O'Brien's Matter of Fact episode this week, including an important call out by WEPC faculty Liz Bettini for a focus on both recruitment AND retention of SETs: "we can't just bring people in, we need to support them once their there." https://lnkd.in/evgTYSwH

Yesterday, Dr. Liz Bettini received the The White House Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on outstanding researchers early in their careers. For those that know and work with Liz, this is certainly not surprising but absolutely recognition well-deserved. We are so grateful to get to support her work and efforts at WEPC. Always a good day when work you're doing with a partner is featured in a broader context aligned with policymaking goals. Earlier today, Pia Caronongan shared our recently released white paper "Early Education Workforce Supports at Scale: How state-level data and research could improve innovations and investments in Massachusetts" at the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care Workforce Council meeting. ? What a fun way to wrap up 2024! Last week I delivered my signature training, "The Data Visualization Checklist," at the Boston University Wheelock Educational Policy Center. These folks are on a mission to conduct and disseminate rigorous policy research to improve educational opportunities and outcomes for traditionally marginalized students. This group was such a delight to work with. We had policy researchers, professors, students, and government partners all in one room as we dove into the fundamental question: how do we get folks to really understand and care about our data? A big thank you to Meagan Comb, Sidrah Baloch, and Tatiana Batista for inviting me to campus and hosting such a fun event. I can't wait to see what your team creates in 2025!

So honored that Boston University Wheelock Educational Policy Center was able to host the One Million Teachers of Color (1MTOC) Campaign’s New England summit and simultaneously get the opportunity to host some of our students and faculty for the event. Special thanks to TNTP and Latinos for Education for leading efforts to plan such a valuable and impactful agenda and including us in it.
