2023’s Boston University Giving Day is finally here! We are a student organization within the Boston University College of Engineering, with the majority of our members coming from the Boston University Dept. of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Boston University College of Engineering Mechanical Engineering. We are designing an innovative Mars exploration rover from scratch to participate in the annual University Rover Challenge (URC). Giving Day is a crucial opportunity for our club to raise funds to travel to Utah and compete in the URC, as well as continue to make a difference in the world of STEM. Boston University Mars Rover is a student-run organization established in 2018 where we designed an innovative Mars exploration rover from scratch to compete in the annual University Rover Challenge. The competition is held on Mars Desert Research Station with over 100 teams representing over twelve countries worldwide. Our club aims to promote hands-on engineering to future engineers, providing them a taste of real-world industry experience they do not encounter in a lecture hall. Our team consists of 8 Sub-Teams: Mobility Chassis Hardware, Robotics Arms Hardware, Robotic Arms Software, Autonomous Navigation, Communications Software, Power Systems, Life Detection, and Marketing. Each sub-team has its projects that contribute to the team running smoothly and completing the Rover; you can find some of their work showcased here, on our website, or our Instagram! BU Mars Rover is not only for engineering students but anyone interested in applying the skills they learn in class or even learning new ones! In fact, in 2022, about 30% of members are from the College of Art and Science, according to our stats. Even though having a successful competition is our end goal, our primary focus is to give our members a fun engineering and team experience to prepare for their futures in the workforce.
