Hosted by the BU Wheelock Institute for Early Childhood Well-Being in collaboration with the Center on Forced Displacement, this event will feature a keynote lecture and expert panel discussion.

The Institute for Early Childhood Well-Being had a successful academic year with various activities connected to its mission to support and promote interdisciplinary community engagement and research in early childhood well-being. Dina C. Castro and Luzmila Mendivil Trelles will be presenting "The Afro-descendent Diaspora in Peru: Afro-Peruvian Identity Construction in Early Childhood" in the panel of "Childhood Diversity, and Family Complexity in Latin America" on Saturday, June 15 from 10:20 to 11:50 AM at Bogota, Colombia.

The Institute for Early Childhood Well-Being hosted an event at BU, bringing together researchers from diverse fields to collaborate on understanding and promoting the well-being of young children. Attendees networked, shared ideas, and laid the groundwork for future collaborations. Take a look at some of the pictures taken at the event below!

Dr. Lenette Azzi-Lessing, Clinical Professor of Social Work, at BU, and Dr. Margaret Lombe, Associate Professor of Social Work, at BU, were the recipients of a University-Community Partnership Research Award funded by the BU Wheelock Institute for Early Childhood Well-Being. We are excited to share a publication of their research:?Preventing Violence Against Young Children, in which their goal is to build a knowledge base that will facilitate the development of an innovative, evidence-based, and community-informed pilot project to prevent violence against young children in a marginalized community in South Africa and will further inform the efforts of policymakers, practitioners, and other researchers in South Africa and other Low-and-Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). Additionally, they partnered with The Children’s Institute, University of Cape Town, South Africa, And True North, Vrygrond, South Africa.

Join us for an engaging event featuring: Dr. Kimberly Crespo discusses how bilingual experience and cognitive factors shape learning. Dr. Alicia Mendez presents a systems mapping project aiding infant mental health in Massachusetts. Dr. Nurten Karacan ?zdemir shares efforts supporting children and parents post-earthquake in Türkiye.
