We are committed to shaping the future of tech by inspiring young women to explore #STEM careers. ?? See below how our Gender Equality Network team made a difference this summer by hosting over 150 young women at our Snowhill and Bristol offices.?
Celebrating a 'Summer of STEM'! In the UK, fewer than half of young women choose to study #STEM topics in school and less than 40% of STEM related degrees are awarded to women. AT BT Group, we know we have a role to play in developing the future of our industry, and our amazing Gender Equality Network team (Vicky Hicks, Alice Melling, Hope Kuhwald, Keran Spetch, Jenny Woods and Chloé C.) delivered a series of events to inspire and excite young women about careers in #tech. After our first event in London last year, this summer, we welcomed over 150 young women into our Snowhill and Bristol offices for demos on drones, fibre splicing, and even holographics! With many of those attending now back to school this autumn, we hope to have shone a light on what's possible, and our GEN team are already looking at continuing the series later this year! #STEMCareers #WomenInTech #BT #BTGroup

Today I had the honour to be at the House of Lords with Michelle Ovens CBE of Small Business Britain and Minister Gareth Thomas MP, and other partners who play a key role in championing the sustainability movement among UK SMBs. ? The research we launched earlier this year alongside Small Business Britain has shed light on the unique opportunities and challenges SMBs encounter on their journey towards Net Zero. It's encouraging to see that a quarter of small businesses now recognise sustainability as a catalyst for their growth. Despite this, a knowledge and application gap still persists, with many SMBs eager for external support. Financial hurdles remain the main barrier, as 80% of small businesses are willing to implement sustainable practices. ? To bridge this gap, we're thrilled to announce the launch of the BT Business and Small Business Britain 6-week online course, designed to guide 1000 businesses through the basics, offering practical steps to measure and reduce emissions, and making a compelling financial case for sustainability. I am a firm believer that ongoing collaboration is vital to help SMBs achieve their environmental goals, just another way to show businesses we’ve got their backs. ? #Sustainability #SmallBusiness #GotYourBack

"Being part of the Change the Race Ratio steering committee is an important step for BT Group as we strive to improve representation and inclusion, both inside and also beyond our organisation,” says Fiona Vines. We believe that true innovation and success are driven by a diverse team with a wide range of perspectives and experiences. We are honoured to stand alongside other organisations and leaders who share the same goal.
?? Change the Race Ratio launches it's 2024 Progress Report. ?? We're pleased to share the insights and the positive steps businesses are taking, with 91% of the FTSE 350 signatories setting a target to increase senior management representation. ?? Some highlights: ? The survey shows an increase in companies’ reporting on ethnicity pay gaps, with 79% now publishing there ethnicity pay gaps ? 91.2% of all our respondents now have at least one racial or ethnic minority board director, up from 83% for the year prior ? Board representation stood on average at 15.32% up from 14% the year before ? Almost half of respondents reported having 2 or more ethnic minority directors on their board, with the average board comprising of 10 members ? All Change the Race Ratio FTSE350 signatories achieved their Parker target of having at least one ethnic minority board director, compared with 77% of the whole FTSE350 ? 85% of all respondents have set a target for senior management, up from 74% the year prior Download the full report ??
