“We need to talk about nature, climate, and people – and these need to be connected as we develop solutions for the future.” BSR Manager, Climate Change Anine Bundg?rd shares her takeaways from BSR, The B Team, and We Mean Business Coalition’s event on Stakeholder Engagement and Co-Creation for a Just Transition at COP29. #COP29 #sustainablebusiness #sustainablefuture #justtransition
Just Transition | Climate Justice | Climate & Human Rights | Climate and People Manager at BSR (Business for Social Responsibility)
On Tuesday, BSR, The B Team and the We Mean Business Coalition hosted a #COP29 event on Stakeholder Engagement and Co-creation for a Just Transition. ?? See the attached for our panelists great insights and concrete approaches to engaging and co-creating climate solutions with affected stakeholders. A few key takeaways from our amazing panelists include: ?? If we don’t include workers in the transition, it’s just a transition - it’s not a JUST transition ??♂? We need to listen to the affected communities to understand their needs. We have to me humble, listen and create trust. We need to co-create solutions with them instead of assuming that we know what they need. And then of course to act on this. Companies with purpose are wonderful – but we need to put this purpose into action. ?????? The just transition is multidimensional and integrates a lot of actors – we have to take into account all these dimensions and actors. At the local level we also have to take into account the most vulnerable people, the SMEs that have less resources and tools than big companies have, and also the youth, who will be the workers of tomorrow. ? We need to talk about nature, climate and people – and these need to be connected as we develop solutions for the future. Thank you so much to our panel of speakers:? The US elections will have profound implications for the global economy, and sustainable business. The incoming administration has made clear that core elements of the responsible business agenda—climate and nature, human rights, diversity and inclusion, and various governance requirements —will be challenged or rejected.?The question facing us now is: how can sustainable business leaders continue to make important progress in this new environment? https://lnkd.in/eY9yEf9A Business leaders will need to prepare for a significantly altered policy environment. At the same time, it’s important to remember that sustainability efforts will continue to be shaped by a combination of underlying business risks, strategic opportunities, and changing global expectations from customers, employees, and investors. In the latest edition of Insights+, we explore:? ?What the new administration means for the future of just and sustainable business? ?Why 2025 won’t be a replay of 2017 despite similar dynamics? ?How business can meet the challenge in the face of shifting US policies? ?How BSR is working with members to help them address sustainability-related business risks and opportunities Insights+ provides insights and foresight that empower sustainability leaders to be strategic C-Suite advisors by identifying and analyzing emerging and cross-cutting sustainability issues, as well as supporting their efforts to achieve tangible progress toward a more just and sustainable world. BSR stands with We Mean Business Coalition, #Mission2025, and 38,000 global businesses in calling on the world’s largest economies to address the global climate crisis by delivering policies for an accelerated shift from fossil fuels to a clean energy future. As heads of state prepare to meet at the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro,?they have an opportunity to build on the progress from COP28 and galvanize policy negotiations currently underway at COP29 in Baku. ? Thousands of companies —representing nearly 40% of the global economy —have committed to reducing their emissions in line with climate science-aligned targets. We urge G20 leaders to also meet the moment and deliver on the targets and policies needed for a just transition toward a more resilient, and clean future. Claudio Formisano Associate Director at BSR, shares his perspectives on data standardization, online-facilitated trafficking, and the role of tech in innovation and collaboration following the BSR-Amazon Tech Against Trafficking Summit in London. For more information on BSR’s Collaborative Initiative tackling the intersection of human trafficking and tech, visit: https://lnkd.in/d3kTXbi7
With its mission to scale solutions on #supplychain management, addressing online harm, and accelerating technology innovation to combat modern slavery, at Tech Against Trafficking, in the past year alone, we have engaged with over a thousand anti trafficking leaders and experts including over 10 global grassroot organizations, 40 government representatives and 200 human rights leads at global multinational companies. Against this backdrop, I could not be prouder of the partnership between BSR and Amazon Social Responsibility Team in hosting the third Global Summit in London last week. Through hands-on practical sessions and a tech challenge for anti-trafficking NGOs, the Summit gathered 200 world leaders to prioritize action on data standardization to combat forced labor, leveraging AI & technologies to support vulnerable rightsholders and disrupt criminal networks. We are producing an outcome document to inform strategies going forward, but here's a few insights from last week: ?? Data standardization and collection efforts: - There is greater need for standards on transparency and data collection to create a level playing field for all business conducting due diligence for social impacts - Standards could also benefit civil society organizations so that research efforts could be more tailored to the business sector - These practices need to be trickled down to SMEs and smaller business players, to capture improvement, not only "risks" ?? Online facilitated trafficking: - Leveraging insights and expertise to prevent online harm is critical across all actors - The financial sector should be increasingly involved in prevention efforts to follow the money trail ?? Tech innovation and collaboration: - There is a need to scale existing solutions and avoid redundancies - AI applications are promising to disrupt crime, but there is a need to standardize their ethical use and be deplyed in a privacy preserving mechanisms - Solutions need to be inclusive of the perspectives and needs of people with lived experiences It's been a great pleasure to introduce TAT's new members TikTok Hewlett Packard Enterprise and HP to join the rest of the group (Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, Google, Carlson) My appreciation to Leigh Anne DeWine for her phenomenal leadership in supporting these efforts over the past several years, and her great team whom I am very fond of Laura Svat Rundlet Sarah Binion, Ph.D. To the team who has tirelessly worked to make this happen Gangamma Chengappa Ginevra Ossola and the BSR team Alice Pease Lale Teki?alp Laura D. BSR Managing Director, Business Transformation Christine Diamente shares six key takeaways from a panel session at the European Commission: “First experiences in applying ESRS." #CSRD #ESRS
This morning, I had the immense honour of moderating an excellent panel session at the European Commission on ‘First experiences in applying ESRS’ with fellow presenters and panellists Tim Mohin Patrick de Cambourg Benedetta Testino Adam Pradela Filip Gregor Niels Strange Peulicke-Andersen. Here are some key insights from our lively discussion: 1- ‘We are creating change’ The CRSD is a business transformation into management strategy. Based on early practices from EFRAG implementation report conducted by Boston Consulting Group (BCG) , 85% surveyed companies intend to use impacts in corporate strategy. Value chain is the area that still needs work in this first phase. 2- ‘CSRD is about value creation for businesses and society’. Sustainability reporting will not go away! It’s not compliance — we need pragmatism and common sense. Sector specific standards will be delayed by EFRAG and also evaluating SME standards. Patrick de Cambourg 3- Within the variety of of approaches on implementation, leverage CSRD to tell a narrative on impact and achievements, even if early days. At times, ‘more is less’! Benedetta Testino 4- Remember to focus, and ‘do less with more quality’ shared DHL. Ensure proper steering processes aligned with finance and raise awareness across the organization. We shouldn’t rush to sector specific standards yet! Adam Pradela 5- CSRD is a strategic approach — there will be differences between global companies and local players. Be selective, make disclosure ‘manageable and meaningful’ and use transition period for value chain. Filip Gregor 6- As a front runner in implementing CSRD, ?rsted shared ‘build your approach and red thread. Make it reader friendly. Use it as a basis for discussion and engagement across the company, functions with stakeholders and in your value chain’ Niels Strange Peulicke-Andersen Finally, excellent audience questions raising challenges related to net vs gross risks, member state non-implementation, reducing reporting burden including relevance of sector specific standards. Patrick de Cambourg shared that EFRAG has received over 700 questions in year 1! A huge thank you to Tom Dodd Kate Frisby and European Commission for an excellent conference and open dialogue online and in the room! #CSRD #ESRS #businesstransformation #sustainablebusiness #sustainabilityreporting

What are the signs that a collaborative initiative is reaching the end of its tenure and how can businesses tell whether the “red flags” being seen are conquerable hurdles or warning signs of a pending end? Business-led, pre-competitive collaborative initiatives are a cornerstone of systems change and advancing solutions to systematic problems. When those same collaborations begin to struggle, resources become constrained, participants become weary, and the impact they leave becomes minimal. While they're not meant to be everlasting, companies must recognize when it’s time to pull the plug. BSR Manager, Collaboration Cameron Steagall shares red flags for collaborations to recognize to help evolve their strategy accordingly or plan for an ending. As collaboration experts focused on high-impact, BSR recognizes the difficulties, but also the power of collective action.
