Gender-based violence (GBV) is a global crisis. ?? In recent weeks, high-profile cases across the world have brought this harsh reality to the forefront: from India to France, Kenya to Poland, and even right here in the U.S. But these headlines are just a small glimpse of a much larger epidemic that affects millions of women and girls every day. ?? Did you know that 1 in 3 women globally has experienced physical or sexual violence in their lifetime? And yet, less than 40% seek help, and only 10% turn to the authorities. It’s 2024, and still, deep-rooted cultural norms and inadequate systems allow perpetrators to go unpunished, while survivors suffer in silence. At Breaking Silence Movement, we are committed to raising awareness, breaking the stigma, and empowering survivors to speak up. Every story shared helps to chip away at the walls of silence, sparking conversations and inspiring others to come forward. This is not someone else’s problem. GBV affects us all. Join Breaking Silence Movement (BSM) as a board member and be a driving force in our mission to end GBV and empower survivors. Breaking Silence Movement (BSM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area, dedicated to addressing and eradicating GBV through mitigation, prevention, and response. Our mission is to create a world where everyone can live free from the threat of violence. We achieve this by raising awareness, providing resources, and fostering community engagement to bring about systemic change. As a board member, you will play a crucial role in guiding the strategic direction of BSM. You will ensure BSM adheres to its mission, values, and legal responsibilities, providing governance and oversight. In addition, you will assist in securing financial support to sustain and expand our programs through fundraising and resource development. Representing BSM in the community, you will build partnerships and advocate for policies that support GBV prevention and survivor support. Your contributions to strategic planning will help develop and implement long-term strategies to achieve our goals.
