In October, our S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Mathematics) session, presented by the Lancaster County STEM Alliance, provided our high school students with several hands-on activities and demonstrations facilitated by faculty from Millersville University of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania College of Art and Design, and Elizabethtown College, and Lancaster County Career and Technology Center.
Karen King, Cultivate Lancaster, and Aileen Wigotow, CPA offered an interactive career readiness session on financial literacy, helping the students to understand budgeting - and knowing the right questions to access to set themselves up for financial success!
We heard from two of our Discovering Paths graduates from Conestoga Valley School District, Ahmad Mhusen and Luke Stoltzfus, as they reflected on what they learned from the program and shared about their job shadowing experiences.
Hear are a few snippets from our students about their experiences in October!
"I learned a lot about job shadowing and a lot about a couple interesting careers with was very beneficial. I was also able to just talk to a lot of the people at the stations and had lots of connections with them."
"My biggest takeaway was learning that it is ok to not know exactly what you want to do when you’re older. Job shadows help you decide what you would like to do with your future."
"I learned a lot about the job shadowing and I am so excited. I also learned a lot about fields that I’m not interested in but they’re interesting to learn about: ex. meteorology."
"My biggest takeaway from today’s session was the amount of different career interests there were and how interactive they were. I learned that you could extract DNA from strawberries [...] and I also learned more about careers involving maintaining safety protocols for people and the environment."
"My biggest takeaway from today’s session was connections are really important. They will help you in the long run to accomplish your future goals."
