BRT is having a blast (and learning a lot!) as part of Cohort 7 of the LA BioStart Bootcamp!
?? Not Your Average Scientist ?? ?? I create value with strategic communication. I bridge gaps in knowledge and understanding so STEM teams can make wiser choices. Behavior, Data, or People - I bring order to the chaos.
When I say “Startup”, you say . . . Yes, the answer is ‘Yay!!!’ We’ve just wrapped Week 3 of our LA BioStart Bioscience Entrepreneurs Bootcamp. So, there’s a lot of new information and shout outs today. We started our week welcomed by Vasiliki Anest,Ph.D at Keck School of Medicine of USC, MESH Strategic Partnerships. We heard from Dr. Justin Ichida (of BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc., AcuraStem, and Modulo Bio – also professor at USC!) on Entrepreneurial Innovation into Biotech and from Dr. Eunjoo Pacifici on Regulatory and Quality Science. At the end of the day, Alix Vaissié and team showed us around their Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) facilities. Thank you, USC faculty and staff! We had a couple large firms with specialty banking and tax services designed for small business startups in life sciences: JPMorganChase (thank you, Alan Gould, Erica White, CFA, and Eva Serna, MBA) and Deloitte (thank you, Tori Boegh, Krystsina Haivaronskaya, and Brandon Yamauchi), respectively. A few sessions were held in the LA BioSpace facilities with Howard Xu at California State University, Los Angeles. We learned from seasoned industry professionals in the entrepreneurial space (highly connected, do network!). Big thanks to Euljoon Park and George Tolomiczenko, who discussed the many journeys, obstacles, and successes throughout their careers. And thanks to virtual presenters: Orquidea Garcia at Johnson & Johnson in Biomaterials and Biologics for sharing on real world evidence and evidence generation and Karen Glenn for sharing about Grifols and Corporate Affairs. Special shout outs to impactful workshop experiences: Edward Beres with UCLA Technology Development Group, thank you for starting us on the Business Model Canvas to investigate our true value propositions and defined customer segments. Thank you to Jacob Berlin, PhD for walking us through your “Terray Therapeutics Personal Experience” in creating massive datasets of target-ligand binding interactions. Thank you to Robert Bishop and Wendie Johnston from the Pasadena Bio Collaborative Incubator for hosting the day. Thank you to the Larta Institute as Rohit Shukla led a most interactive and motivational discussion on “Communicating Value in an Uncertain World”. A big thank you to Tom White from the The Disruptor's Studio, the magic transformative communicator and storyteller, walking us through the “Customer’s Hero’s Journey”! And thank you, Ryan Witt from RenovoRx for your advice and experience regarding pitching to investors (and for sharing while away at conference!). I’m including mentions and tags for bioscience networking and visibility around LA and (perhaps) beyond. Next round of LA BioStart Startups: TNC Medical Solutions and Sundaze Heated Shorts. We’re all in this together!
