?? Celebrating the Next Chapter of ACCEL!: Applications Now Open for Year Three! ?? We are excited to announce that applications are now open for the third cohort of Advancing Climatetech & Clean Energy Leaders (ACCEL), a unique accelerator between Greentown Labs and Browning The Green Space (BGS). If you are an innovative early-stage BIPOC-led startup that is developing climate solutions for the agriculture, buildings, electricity, manufacturing, resiliency + adaptation, and transportation sectors, this accelerator is for you! Applications are due by Jan. 7, 2025. Interested entrepreneurs can learn more about the call for applications by visiting the program website or contacting [email protected]. Applicants may apply from anywhere in the world, with priority consideration given to applicants based in Greater Boston and Greater Houston, where Greentown’s incubators are located. BIG NEWS: Year 3 of #ACCEL is here! We’re excited to announce that applications for the third year of this accelerator program for BIPOC-led startups with Browning the Green Space are now open. ACCEL bolsters startups as they develop critical climatetech solutions by offering access to funding, networking connections, resources, and opportunities that structural inequities put out of reach. The year-long program combines acceleration with a curated curriculum, incubation at Greentown, and extensive mentorship from Greentown and BGS’s networks of industry experts. Accepted startups gain up to $25k in non-dilutive funding, training from VentureWell, workshops on key topics, connections to investors and industry leaders, and more. In collaboration with The American City Coalition (TACC),this initiative aims to connect the untapped talent of Roxbury’s workforce with opportunities in the Biotech, Healthcare, and Green/Blue Tech sectors. Our executive director, Kerry Bowie, will be moderating a panel at 1:30 PM titled, "Clean Energy and Climate Resilience Workforce: A Just Clean Energy Transition" with Jennifer Applebaum Managing Director of Workforce Development, Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MASSCEC); Crystal Johnson Assistant Secretary of Environmental Justice, Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA); Pierre Charles PLAISIR Student, Building Automation Systems Certificate Program, Roxbury Community College (RCC); and Barry Reaves Vice President for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice & Workforce Development, ACT | The Alliance for Climate Transition (ACT). In Roxbury, middle-skills workers—those with some college or an Associate’s degree—represent nearly 25% of the population over 25. Hidden workers, including immigrants, caregivers, and previously incarcerated individuals, are also significant in this community. Partner updates! We’re excited to announce that we’re an advocacy partner for Action for Equity Green Equity Partnership (GEP). The GEP, is an incumbent worker training and advancement project serving new hires and experienced workers needing green upskilling with a focus on inclusion, meeting the needs of multiple employers and their employees, and deep skill acquisition. The GEP is a pilot demonstration project intended to build a foundation for a continuing partnership and BGS is proud to be a part of it!
