Brown Girls Code was launched in Fall 2018 in Augusta, GA. Since then, we have expanded our reach across twenty-six states throughout the U.S., Canada and Poland. We are training underrepresented youth, ages 7-18 in computer science, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, coding, engineering and other STEAM related fields. On average, eighty-five (85%) of our participants remain in our programs for at least four years. This year is very special because our youngest coders who started our first year have just become High School Freshmen. ?? Parents, PARTNERS, Coders/Cohorts,Volunteers/interns/BGC Team, BGIT and community members: THANK YOU! We could not have made it without your support and encouragement along the way. We are SO grateful! We will be adding new programs for our HS members (AP Computer Science, paid apprenticeships and leadership roles). We will also be launching new academies and new locations (DMV, AL, South Africa ????)next year to promote specialization! Oh, the possibilities!!!!! ???? Brown Girls Code participated in CyberPatriot XVII -the 17th season of the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition! We were pleased to have twelve (12) participants in this year’s competition. Two of our BGC Participants (Matilyn L. {BGCCA} and Alaya J. {BGC}) were recognized for a special award at the event. ???????????? Congratulations to all participants for your hard work and dedication as you learned more about principles in cybersecurity through hands-on applications. Congratulations to our future BG Coder, Keilana M. (rising 11th grader) for placing FIRST out of 100+ students to win the overall competition! ????????????????????Keilana will be awarded a full scholarship to our BGC CYBER ACADEMY {BGCCA}in the Fall. ???? The CSRA Alliance for Fort Eisenhower hosted the nation’s largest CyberPatriot camp this week — and we were excited to be a part of this historic event! ?? Meet DESTINI HUGGINS, a quiet force representing #TheClassof2024 as a High School Graduate from the Georgia Connections Academy. Destini was recognized during our recent Demo Day for “PERFECT ATTENDANCE” for FIVE CONSECUTIVE YEARS in Brown Girls Code. We have had the pleasure of watching Destini grow into a young leader in STEM. She has participated in both our afterschool programs and BGC Cyber Academy. Destini is trained in Python programming languages and Cybersecurity principles. She has even served as a Lead Roboticist during a city wide community expo where she taught other youth how to code robots. Destini serves on an Audio Visual Team within her community and successfully satisfied our BGC High School requirement for community service of at least twenty (20) hours each year. Destini is a Member of the GACA eSports Team where she uses her skills to compete in electronic sports using video games. During High school she was also a member of the Gaming and Technology Club, and Art Club. Destini plans to pursue a COMPUTER SCIENCE degree in the Fall. She aspires to become a VIDEO GAME DESIGNER. ?? Meet JALIAH ELDRIDGE, a creative thinker representing #TheClassof2024 as a High School Graduate. Jaliah has participated in both our BGC afterschool programs and BGC Cyber Academy workshops for the past two years. Jaliah is trained in Python programming languages and Cybersecurity principles. This year, Jaliah represented Brown Girls Code in the inaugural?Changemakers in STEM Virtual Youth Congress hosted by SciTech Institute, Onsemi, TIES, SLECop, and CYESS. In doing so, Jaliah worked with other youth from SIX (6) DIFFERENT COUNTRIES to collaborate, develop and present solutions to address current challenges in #STEM within these topics:#Sustainability, #TechForGood, #AerospaceEngineering and #ArtificialINTELLIGENCE. Jaliah plans to pursue a CYBERSECURITY degree in the Fall. She aspires to become a CYBERSECURITY ANALYST. We salute you JALIAH on a job well done! ???????? Rachael Rhodes started with Brown Girls Code in 2018. She was selected to represent the ‘face of BGC’ but she also grew to represent the ‘mission of BGC’. Rachael moved on to complete a dual enrollment program at Augusta Technical College with a part time job while excelling academically (AP classes included) at Westside High School. Rachael is also an avid golfer and participated in track and basketball during high school as well. In addition, Rachael has spent three terms in the TIP Program at Duke University and has already completed an internship at a global manufacturing company. ???????????? Today, Rachael represents #TheClassof2024 as a High School Graduate ??. She has demonstrated a commitment to promoting computer science within her community and served as Chapter President of the NSBE, JR. Chapter of the CSRA.
