Barnes & Noble CEO, James Daunt, delivered a robust statement in his recent interview with PBS News. His comment on the continued expansion of B&N bookstores (60 new stores in 2025 in addition to the nearly 60 stores opened in 2024) often surprises those not in the publishing business with just how healthy the industry actually is: "It's about the bookselling team and it's about how you take all these huge number of books, arrange them, and display them in a manner which really engages with your local community. The insight that gives me in terms of running lots of bookstores is, leave it to the teams in each store. Yesterday, Brown Books Publishing Group laced up and hit the pavement at the Dallas BMW Marathon! Splitting into two relay teams—the Run-Ons and the Em Dashers—we brought some friendly competition and plenty of team spirit to the race. A huge shoutout to our author Mike Cosentino of Big Peach Running Co. for stepping in as our shoe consultant. Thanks to his expert advice, we were prepped for success, and our teams crushed their segments even faster than anticipated! Despite the foggy weather, the energy was electric, the laughs were nonstop, and the experience left us stronger as a team. The race turned out to be an incredible team-building exercise—challenging us to rely on one another, cheer each other on, and celebrate every milestone together. Running alongside so many inspiring participants reminded us that endurance, camaraderie, and a love for storytelling come in many forms—whether on the page or the racecourse. Here’s to pushing boundaries, together!
