For his pioneering role and accomplishments leading Brooklyn Children's Museum, our President & CEO?Atiba Edwards?has been recognized on the 2025 Black Power Players list published by PoliticsNY and amNewYork! "I visited BCM often as a kid. Returning to lead this historic institution has been my proudest achievement. Being back has illuminated so many threads in my life that were first sparked at this Museum and that carried me through, including my perpetual state of curiosity and desire to learn. Now I witness hundreds of thousands of kids who come through our doors today discover those same sparks and connect to those same threads." Brooklyn's future was on full display last week at our Black Future Festival! WCBS | CBS New York's Hannah Kliger visited us to spotlight the festival and this year's theme, "I Dream of Black Brooklyn," speaking with our President/CEO Atiba Edwards and STooPS Bed Stuy's Founder/Director Kendra J. Bostock about the importance of this celebration for our community. "This festival creates a space of affirmation where a child can see themselves and envision who they might be," Atiba shared during the interview. "Children's museums are one of the few environments where children have real agency, and that power of decision-making is crucial for shaping their own futures." From The New York Times: "It's one of the spaces where you learn cultural sensitivity, cultural competency — so many soft skills that you can't really learn anywhere as a child." That's President & CEO Atiba Edwards talking about Brooklyn Children's Museum, 125 years after we opened as the world's first children's museum. Honored to see our story shared in this beautiful profile. Read the article: https://lnkd.in/eJnVGmub #BrooklynKids #125yearsofplay #NYTimes
