At our 2025 Brooklyn Org Spark Breakfast yesterday, over 400 dedicated New Yorkers came out to the Barclays Center to support racial justice and lasting change — sparking hope at a time when our communities need it most. We hope you left excited and energized to do even more good for Brooklyn, and as we enter the 9th year of the Brooklyn Org Spark Prize (applications are now open!), your support matters more than ever before. “The 2025 Brooklyn Org Spark Prize winning nonprofits embody the greatness of Brooklyn in every way,” said Jocelynne Rainey, Ed.D., President and CEO of Brooklyn Org. “At a time when nonprofits have been rocked by federal funding freezes, rescinded government grants, and an onslaught of executive orders and legislation threatening our capacity to provide essential services to children, families, and older adults, these five nonprofits represent the values that unite us as Brooklynites – diversity, inclusivity, equity, justice, belonging, compassion. Brooklyn Org is proud to honor these organizations as a sign of our unwavering commitment to supporting our Brooklyn community and the nonprofits that are the backbones of our neighborhoods.” We celebrated the five winners of the $100,000 Brooklyn Org Spark Prize, organizations defined by an ingenuity that is distinctly, unapologetically Brooklyn: Brooklyn Book Bodega, Brownsville Community Culinary Center, CHiPS (Community Help in Park Slope, Inc.), Good Call NYC, and TechFIN. It was a morning filled with love, tears, and joy, and the stories shared by our partners underscore the urgency of our collective work and the critical importance of our borough’s nonprofit community. We hope you will receive their remarks as a call to action to deepen your commitment to Brooklyn. ?? Please consider an additional gift to support this vital grantmaking program; your gift enables us to invest $600,000 each year to ignite the work of our winners and finalists: https://lnkd.in/ey9Eqfwa Thank you to our generous sponsors for leading the way to our goal, including Debevoise & Plimpton, Stardust and Lawanna Kimbro, Esq., Peter Furci and Suzanne Elio, Michael Gillespie and Lauren Glant, Hilary and Edwin Jager, the Scout Fund, Diane and Joseph Steinberg, and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP. ??See more event highlights on our blog: https://lnkd.in/ehEjAXNi

Be sure to join our President & CEO Jocelynne Rainey, Ed.D. for this important conversation on the future of philanthropy tomorrow, 3/19 at 4 PM! RSVP: https://lnkd.in/ebSDxgVx
Philanthropy is having a moment! I recently posted on the impact of Mackenzie Scott's philanthropy. The sheer scale and audacity of her approach is inspiring. But you don't have to be a billionaire to get in on this philanthropy revolution! ? In just 5-10 years, we will begin to see the start of the largest wealth transfer in history. It is estimated baby boomers will transfer?$84 trillion over the next 20 years to Gen X, millennials, and Gen Z. Most of it will go to women! The potential for philanthropy is enormous,?not only in terms of gift sizes,?but also in how this next generation of?philanthropists will give and engage with the?social impact community. Join us March 19, 4pm ET, for this virtual event to explore: Where are the opportunities for greatest social impact? What are the obstacles to giving? Who can support individual donors on their philanthropy path? ? Host: Tina Duong, Founder, ImpactPro Tech Speakers: Andine Sutarjadi (moderator), Director, 21/64 - a multigenerational engagement expert, and steering committee member of Asian Women Giving Circle, the first and largest giving circle in the nation led by Asian American women. Jocelynne Rainey, Ed.D., President & CEO, Brooklyn Org - leading the community foundation of NYC's largest borough whose Donor Advised Funds have contributed $130 million to local nonprofits since 2009. Rose Lavandero, Philanthropy Advisor - an advisor to individual philanthropists who has helped steer millions to nonprofits around the country. We designed the panel with women in mind because they are estimated to receive the bulk of this wealth transfer. But all are welcome to join. It’s been a long time coming and I am excited to announce the launch of The Table NYC, a network dedicated to empowering grassroots organizations in underserved communities. With members spanning from 22 to 65 years old, this multi-generational platform aims to unite talents and resources to overcome existing barriers, fostering collaboration in fundraising, knowledge sharing, bartering services, and collective growth. Our communities possess the solutions to its challenges, and The Table serves as the framework to harness our collective potential. Grateful for the consultants supporting us with workshops on fundraising, operations, branding, and more, enhancing the network's sustainability and development. Their expertise enriches us, paving the way for mutual learning and progress. I am also grateful for Jocelynne Rainey, Ed.D. & Sabrina Hargrave who encouraged me to present the network to grassroot orgs when I attended their last Brooklyn Org donor advised fund holder meeting. Over 20 orgs signed up after my presentation, which gave me a strong foundation to build upon. Members will have an opportunity to receive micro-grants through the Quincy & Nia Fund (named after my children) at Brooklyn Org and technical assistance launching their programs through schools partnering with Inspiring Minds NYC. Currently in the pilot phase, we look forward to expanding membership opportunities in June 2025.
