Over the last year, we’ve asked breweries around the world to create a first-of-its-kind beer using fonio, an ancient African supergrain that is good for the planet, supports smallholder farmers in Africa, and has a promising role in the future of beer. Now, it’s our turn to brew a beer for our Brewing For Impact initiative. Our Fonio Rising Pale Ale is bursting with tropical and passionfruit flavors, and it’s available in our Tasting Room and select stores this fall. Check out our beer finder (https://lnkd.in/ex_VCiW) to see where it will be released near you.

We’re thrilled to announce the release of our own fonio beer, Fonio Rising Pale Ale, coming next week. Stay tuned for more details! Thank you to The Washington Post and Courtney Iseman for this fantastic piece on?the innovative process of brewing with fonio, which is leading to unique beers that positively impact economic growth and sustainability in Africa.

For Brooklyn Brewery's latest Brewing For Impact collaboration, Brewmaster Garrett Oliver reached out to his friends Vinnie and Natalie Cilurzo at Russian River Brewing Co, who share a mutual commitment to sustainability and innovative brewing. Vinnie and Natalie embraced the challenge to brew a beer with fonio, choosing to use the unique aromatics of Belgian yeast to showcase the ancient African grain. Our Brooklyn X Russian River Belgian Blonde Ale brewed with fonio will be released at both Russian River's Santa Rosa and Windsor pubs on Thursday, August 15th, as well as for distribution on tap and in bottles!

For our third Brewing For Impact collaboration, we’re thrilled to partner with?Omnipollo Brewery, a team of brewers and artists in Sweden who share our passion for the craft of beer making. Headquartered in an old church, brewer Henok Fentie and artist Karl Grandin started Omnipollo to celebrate beer and design as art. When?Garrett Oliver?invited them to create a beer using fonio, Henok chose to put a spin on our Black Chocolate Stout—the first American craft beer he ever tasted. We’re proud to introduce you to Blacker Chocolate Stout, which is now available within the hallowed walls of Omnipollo Brewery.

“In some ways, Brewing For Impact is the most important work I’ve ever done. If what we’ve started truly catches hold in the industry, we will hopefully start seeing the wider use of a grain that has no need for irrigation, fertilizers, pesticides, or other chemical inputs. It also supports soil regeneration while providing a vital source of income to smallholder farms, which are predominantly female-led – all while making some really fantastic beers. What more can you ask for?” Our Brewmaster Garrett Oliver is celebrating his 30th anniversary with Brewing For Impact, a collaborative exploration with seven breweries around the world, including MAISON KALAO, Thornbridge Brewery, Omnipollo, Carlsberg Group, Russian River Brewing Co, Jing-A (京A) Brewing Co., and Guinness (Diageo). Together, we're spotlighting the ancient West African grain fonio and its untapped brewing potential. Read more about the full initiative in Forbes: https://bit.ly/3UISqfF
