True to our mission, BHJ promotes intergovernmental communication, cooperation, and collaboration on issues and problems that have a greater than local impact. As the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Weirton-Steubenville, WV-OH Urbanized Area, BHJ’s primary mission is to implement the goals and strategies adopted by the Transportation Study Policy Committee, provide a continual, comprehensive, and coordinated 3-C planning process, and fulfill the objectives of the eight metropolitan planning factors established by Public Law. Committed to developing public and private partnerships, as well as foster innovative ideas and strategies that aim to increase the efficient use of the region’s intermodal transportation network, BHJ is in the forefront of the region’s transportation priorities and planning activities.

Today, the Biden-Harris Administration proposed a new rule that would ban airlines from charging junk fees to seat families together on a flight. The Department of Transportation’s (DOT) proposed rule would require airlines to seat parents next to their young children for free when adjacent seating is available at booking.

More great news for Weirton-Steubenville Metro Area. $150 Million investment coming to Weirton, WV at the Half Moon Industrial Park. $50 Million granted by the State of West Virginia to Cleveland Cliffs through a forgivable loan. The project is a reemployment opportunity for 600 USW-represented workers displaced when Cleveland-Cliffs idled Weirton Steel's tinplate operations April 2024.
