The Bronx Burners took a huge step into a big 2025, launching our Associate Board of Directors. This team is going to take the Burners to a whole new level as we bring to life the framework for a plan that Deloitte helped us build in 2024. We are focused on Fundraising, Community Outreach, Digital Strategy, and G&A (Legal, Accounting, Finance). We kicked off with with a Sunday workshop to set vision, and have each member present on their 2025 so we know how to work together, and support each other to be successful. Let's go! Having a positive impact on the community is what the BBRC is all about. This fall we had the opportunity to bring onboard a marathon charity team of 8 people thanks to New York Road Runners and New Balance our runners raised nearly $29,000 by the time they crossed the finish line tape, and every single dollar went toward a scholarship for rising college students in the Bronx. Community is what we are all about. Co-founder Shaquille Roberts shares his vision for what fulfills him in his leadership of the BBRC.

Our NYC Marathon Shakeout run on October 30th was like a movie (stay tuned on that!) to see the community rally around the Burners, to have over achieved our goal of raising $100,000 this year with a grand total $105,240 and to award 7 scholarships worth $27,000 to deserving students has us beaming with pride. Congratulations to our scholarship award winners for your hard work, and congrats to the whole community for making this happen. On to 2025 we go!

We will never forget our amazing scholarship night at the New York Road Runners speed series event. Not only did the team enjoy the results of their hard work on the track, but the fulfillment of setting up a better future for the team. Our ultimate purpose is in creating opportunity through sport. This summer at the New York Road Runners speed series event. We had the opportunity to give out 7 scholarships worth $25,000 to recent graduates from Mott Haven High School to support them as they pursue college. We focus on building relationships off the track as well. Being next to the bright lights of the New York Yankees we had a night at the ballgame this summer thanks to teammate Patryk Odedina who helped organize the outing for 20+ teammates to catch the action. For many of our younger members it was their first time at a game! The Bronx Burners Run Club creates an inclusive space in the community for athletes of all abilities. We've had a number of first time runners start their running journey with the team. Some have leaned in to the opportunity to push themselves to new heights. With the help of New York Road Runners we were able to gain access to a spot in the New York City Marathon for teammate Seiku Sillah. Not only did Seiku complete the marathon, his first, but he did it in style! As it turns out the NYC marathon was but the first chapter in his inspiring running journey.

When the Bronx Burners started in June 2023, we started with a focus on building a community space to support aspiring athletes of all abilities in the Bronx. It was born from Shaquille Roberts experiences growing up in the Bronx and wanting to offer more for the next generation, and Robert Dalto's passion to make an impact. As the team grew we realized our true purpose is to create opportunities through sport. We became a non-profit organization in August 2023 and gave out our first scholarship to Isaiah Slater in October. Isaiah became Field athlete of the year in the CUNYAC Winter Track & Field season last year and this past fall transferred up to SUNY Oneonta to continue his athletic and academic pursuits.
