There’s a Broken Shed on the shores of Lake Wanaka, New Zealand. It’s humble. Unassuming. You won’t find it on any list of ’25 Amazing Places to Visit Before You Die.’ But it’s worth getting to. It’s where two explorers said, ‘Hey! Why don’t we make fantastic vodka with the great stuff we’ve got right here?’ Mineral water from the South Island. Mountain water from the North Island. Distilled with whey sourced from all the happy, milk-making cows that feast on sweet grass all across the lush countryside. So they teamed up with Master Blender Mark Simmonds, rolled up their sleeves, and got to work – sourcing water, perfecting the blend, testing distillates, refining the filtration process. Bringing their creativity and ingenuity to a recipe made with the purest ingredients they could find. But it wasn’t all work work work. They hosted countless Friday night tasting parties – inviting neighbours, friends, and family to the Shed to sip the latest and voice their opinions. We are honored that Beverage Dynamics has again named Broken Shed Vodka a Rising Star in their 2024 Growth Brand Awards. "Premiumization also comes in the form of local, better ingredients. “Our master blender had a goal to make vodka that showcased the natural resources of New Zealand. We think he succeeded,” says Jean-Marie Heins, CMO for the Rising Star winner, Broken Shed. “Broken Shed Vodka is made without any additives, using only the whey distillate and our special blend of two waters, one from each main island of New Zealand. The minerals in the South Island water give our vodka a lovely roundness and a great mouthfeel. The whey distills cleanly, allowing the nuances of the distillate to shine through in the final product. Once people try our vodka, they see why we say taste to see what it means to be different.”" Broken Shed Vodka is now distributed in 33 states in the US as well as New Zealand, Australia, Canada and Samoa. The brand launched in South Carolina and New York in March and April 2024 with more to come.
