In March 2023, Daleen Medina, a then high school junior at Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School, began her internship at the Brockton Redevelopment Authority. After over a year, we bid her farewell as she leaves the BRA to pursue her studies at Tufts University, concentrating on pre-law. Daleen demonstrated exceptional dedication and hard work during her internship, handling all tasks with aplomb and enthusiasm. Her favorite memory was interacting with the staff, sharing jokes, and gaining valuable knowledge of HUD programs. We appreciate Daleen's contributions and wish her continued success in her future endeavors. With her permission, we share her note expressing mutual admiration. Originally intended to end in June 2023, we extended her internship multiple times until it was time for her trip to Portugal before starting college later this month. We will miss her dearly and wish her all the best.

It was such a pleasure attending Brockton Redevelopment Authority’s housing resource fair this past week. Being able to represent on behalf of Family and Community Resources, Inc. and share our resources available was such an incredible experience. To all the members and agencies in the community who participated in this event, it was such a pleasure meeting and speaking with you. Thank you BRA for a great event!

This past Wednesday, we hosted our Housing and Resource Fair Umuganda Challenge event, which turned out to be a tremendous success despite the unpredictable weather forcing us to move indoors. Both the vendors and attendees chatted it up and took care of business all at the same time in our conference room. The fair provided an excellent opportunity for community residents to learn about their options for addressing housing and other woes. Moreover, they had the chance to get more information about and apply for our new rental assistance program. The event was a wonderful way for community stakeholders — residents and organizations — to come together, interact, and gain a deeper understanding of available resources in Brockton. If you were able to make it, thank you for coming out to be a part of the day. We are stronger together!

Exciting news from Brockton about a once resident and hometown hero! Recently, the city erected a statue of Marvelous Marvin Hagler, now prominently displayed in the new Marvelous Marvin Hagler Way park on Petronelli Way in downtown Brockton. It's an honor for the BRA to have played a part in this project: Last July, we gifted the city the land for the park site and monument installation.?In addition, this image is from our vintage-photo collection. It shows the champ returning to Brockton from Europe after winning a middle-weight title.

Last August, the BRA engaged in a land disposition transaction that transferred two lots to New Vision Enterprises (NVE) for the buildout of a 50-unit new complex to be named the Ringside Residences. Yesterday, NVE was one of 11 project sponsors awarded Housing Development Incentive Program (HDIP) funds by the Healey-Driscoll Administration. HDIP allows Gateway cities, such as Brockton, to create housing that supports economic development and increases neighborhood vibrancy. We're thrilled about this exciting news on the project's financing, which brings it far closer to fruition. Next up...the groundbreaking!

The Healey-Driscoll administration understands the importance of boosting housing production in our Gateway Cities. That is why, as part of a $1 billion tax cuts package signed by the Governor last fall, the annual HDIP program cap was raised from $10 million to $57 million in 2023 and will be $30 million annually going forward. HDIP funding allows these important cities to put housing where they need it most. To target areas where market rate housing is needed. And in some cases to bring blocks or entire neighborhoods back to life. Today’s investment of nearly $27 million in HDIP awards will create 547 new units in 11 communities across the state. #Housing #LivableCommunities #EOHLC #HDIP #Barnstable #Brockton #FallRiver #Haverhill #Holyoke #Lawrence #Lowell #Pittsfield #Salem #Springfield #Worcester
